I wasn't aware that there was an argument between UK and EU about vaccines, nor (as that article suggests) the UK government's attitude to the shortfall in Europe was "tough luck". Did I miss something, or are the media just shit stirring again?

Passed a neighbour on the lane day before yesterday - he was on his way to be jabbed and told me to look up the facebook for the local vaccination centres (Powys) as they were running a Reserve List. Eventually found it and messaged the admin to let them know they needed to pin the important post so people could actually see what was going on. https://www.facebook.com/PTHBhealth/
Yesterday afternoon it changed to include 'Group 4' which I'm in as I'm shielding, so I signed up tout-suite.
Yesterday evening another post appeared which explained they were setting up another reserve list for the _next_ group (65-69), so I signed up my wife right away.
At 1305 today I got an email inviting me for a vaccination between 1300 and 1500 !!! At 1330 I was queued up in the car at the builth showground, vaccinated by 1410, home by 1500.
At 1900 this evening my wife got an email inviting _her_ to attend at 1930 if she could make it, so there was some rushing around and off she went.

Yesterday we were both pretty low, but in the space of just 6 hours today, the light at the end of the tunnel is now very bright

That's great news. Must be a big relief, especially when you've been shielding. But you will of course know that you need the second jab before you are fully inoculated, plus about 4-6 weeks of building up your internal immunity via the vaccine. My mum's in the same position, waiting for her second injection, still staying at home 24/7.

The best thing is that you have a timetable for protection. It's such a shame that the jabs appear not to reduce the spread of the virus - that would have been a game-changer. An inoculated person is just as likely to carry and infect as someone who has not yet had the jab.

for older people, people that are vulnerable, or with underlying morbidities etc, the jab is great news .... but what about all those healthy strong people with good natural strong immune systems? .. whose business lives have been ruined by a general lockdown?

.. not to mention the unnecessary cost to the country, that taxpayers have paid, with their lives, sometimes, with all this squandering of our hard earned? when a people lockdown would have been better, with a real track and trace system?

Due to the logistics of the Pfizer vaccine there has always been a reserve list because once a batch is delivered, taken out of deep freeze and mixed by clinicians it only has a useful lifespan of around 6 hours. Then they first vaccinate their booked in eligible patients but because they often get 6 or 7 jabs out of a vile instead of the expected 5 jabs they end up with spare vaccine that will be thrown away at the end of the shift. To avoid wasting vaccine they have a reserve list of people who can drop everything and get to the vaccination centre within an hour or so when they have calculated how much spare they will have. My Wife was vaccinating yesterday as part of a team and after giving over 900 jabs they actually only wasted enough for 1 jab.
In the early days (they have been vaccinating since before Christmas) many of those on the reserve list were NHS staff or carers bringing residents along, more lately it has been volunteers who help with the directing of traffic/patients etc etc at the vaccination centre. This only applies for the Pfizer vaccine due to it's tight temperature requirements. On Thursday she was visiting housebound patients in the community and vaccinating them with Astra/Zenica which can be transported in portable fridges in a car.
They are all working overtime/weekends/flexitime to suit the availability of the vaccine which is the only limiting factor in our area.
The furture is looking a bit brighter once the hospitalization rate comes down.

Thanks Gary but it is just what 1,000's of others around the World are trying to do .
My posts are often just to give a 'boots on the ground' perspective of what is being done and why instead of just relying on the media to decide what they want to tell us each day.
