Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade the rear shock on my Crf250l , on a budget!
I've put up with it for three years now, but as rider ability improves and the
Pace quickens the back end just now seems to be all over the place.

Been looking at the Hyperpro progressive Spring upgrade, looks as though
The Hyperpro Spring replaces the origional Spring and you keep the Honda
Damper unit, looking on eBay , they come in black or purple, any difference
In these, other than colour?I'm awaiting a reply on this from the supplier.

Anyone fitted one of these? at £84, might be worth a punt, I'm not wanting it
To be like a enduro bike, just better than what it is. Or is it a better idea to
replace the full shock, any recommendations on a budget shock for the crfl.

no difference, just the color. On a budget replacing just spring will be fine.
Here is the test of hyperpro springs.

Thanks Robson, (thumbs)

I've got the bike in bits at the moment, doing some well needed maintenance,
So while I'm on I might just try one in, it's got to make it better on the ruff stuff.

Cal sports, on eBay do them I've bought hyper pro stuff from them in past although not yet for Crf , if you ring them they may do it cheaper than on eBay , on any case they're good for advice etc

Thanks Steve I knew I should have waited for your words of wisdom, :(

I've gone ahead bought one now, so I'll have to find out the hard way.
If anything ,it will hold the weight up better, I have the bike in bits so was
Rushed to order one so I can get up and running again, more ride outs are
Looming.

I just hope, I think it's £84 better than the stock?

Plus one for Race Tech internals--it was the only thing that sorted the rear of my Yam WR250R. I also used Race tech cartridge emulators in my CRF230--and then removed the stiffer BBR springs and went back to stock--its easy to get confused between what is caused by spring rate and what is caused by poor damping. My Yam has been the same--I'm now running SOFTER than stock springs both front and rear(from Japan!). On my NX 250 I also put in cartridge emulators and added preload adjusters. One of the "standard" upgrades was to put 20w oil in--but that was with the old damper tubes. I even managed to get some stock CRF230 springs which are a slightly higher rate than stock--but after some riding I'm now running with stock springs, a bit more preload, and lighter fork oil--and the forks feel a hundred time better. Personally I think that getting the damping sorted out, both front and rear, is more important to start with. On the NX rear I started with an SV650 shock but have now moved to a Mk 2 Bandit 600 shock---these are the same length as stock, have a slightly higher spring rate, more travel--and most importantly are of a better quality and have adjustable damping (Most of the development has been done by US owners). The other good thing is that a good , used shock can be purchased from a breaker for 40 quid so its cheap to experiment.
