I think that people come at these discussions with two views...

Particularly when talking about the definition of 'Off Road'.


When the manafacturers are making 'Off Road Style Adventure' bikes, they are designing bikes that will run nicely on Range Roads / Dry Forest Trails - off tarmac.

In the UK, because we don't have a squillion miles of those, like they do in parts of Europe and the states and Australia, we run them on green lanes, and get them bogged down in 3 foot deep mud! Lol

I think they are designed for range roads.... Not North yorkshire Peat Bogs! :woohoo:


So, given what the designers design them for, bikes like the AT look great.


Try and run it in the Dawn to Dusk in the pissing rain - and it might not look so good - but thats not really what its for! Lol

Will the Africa twin take over from the GS for all the critics?

I'll test it then comment.

I don't think it will take over from the GS but I'd stake money on it being a good seller.
Marketing people know that most "Buy with their Eyes" & once that becomes "A Want" then wild horses or bad publicity aint movers or shakers.
To me Honda have definately got this looking right even without a proboscis & it appears to tick most of the boxes with a pretty good spec.

Because it is what it is-a Honda replacement for the late lamented AT, it will sell.

However, taking a position on it's off road capabilities without riding one is dopey.

Since even minor suspension tweaks can massively affect a proven bikes off road handling (at speed....)there is no way a new design's abilities can be assessed from the spec sheet or sitting on it at a show.

We need to wait until a competent, average rider (not enduro star...)gets to put through some real off road situations.

(I'm expect it will be typical Honda competent on the road - you know what I mean - smooth, refined, well made but not stirring the blood)

...I noticed in that review that the rider said the engine 'signed off' at 120mph... :unsure: ...if he meant it wouldn't pull above 120mph then that may be a problem for some of us... :whistle:

He was also hitting a ton on the dirt & it seemed to be tracking flawlessly.
Now that's what our cousins in the US will love.......a true Desert Racer (thumbs)

I hope its a success which I am sure it will be "Time will tell" it would have been nice to have tubeless wheels & tyres like the Crosstourer as a more road going option.

It will stop pulling hard at 120 but it still goes untill about 130'ish , fast enough for me
