Whats the point in hiding in a truck if it's not going anywhere? And after 50 migrants storm a ferry, they are going to inspect and CO2 check every vehicle before they let it leave.

Quite right, but that is still what the migrants hope for.
That's how a lot of them got to Europe in the first place.
They try again and again and again. Some make it.
If there's a small gap they'll find it and try and hide. Some make it.

The other thing I don't understand is I was in Wimereux having lunch on Tuesday on the seafront, surrounded by pleasure craft at anchor. If they are so desperate to get to the UK, why don't they go and steal one?

We used to do the Dieppe run twice a year when we still lived in Britain - the route avoids Paris and once you get past - or in those days through - Rouen, you away ...

Rouen, that's the city with the very low tunnels in the city centre where you think your going to bash your lid on the ceiling they are so low...and the Sat Navs always seem to throw a wobbly :silly: . I've been there 4 times in 3 years, each time the ring-road has been 'closed' and each time we've been stuck for about 2 hours in a never-ending circle of Sat Nav madness... :laugh:

Not much changed then in twenty-five years! We used to call it the Road to Ruin as we always got lost in the city, usually ending up in a railway yard down by the river - no sat navs then of course, just drove round and round until we saw a sign for Le Mans ... :whistle:

The trick with Rouen is to come off the main road as you come from the North under those bridges etc--and find the little urban road that runs all the way down the East side of the river--just potter along, no queues--it eventually reconnects with the motorway well south of the city--avoids the big loop and you don't even cross the river and go past that railway track and industrial estate. Can't give specifics but get a good map of Rouen and look for the road that runs down the EAST side and you'll see what I mean.

Also if yer go that route along the seine theres a super U to fill up cheap and not pay the pearge around Rouen 6015 to the 154 which I follow to Chartres then Orleons and pearge south

^...thanks, that's both good tips (thumbs) . I don't understand why the French make it so difficult for drivers in Rouen? Temporary diversions I can understand but it's been fubared for diversions and lack of signs for years...and it's a big enough City, I presume the French visitors themselves must get equally frustrated? :unsure:
