 Thanks for the words of wisdom everyone, I had a good couple of hours on the 800gs and 1200GS Adv. Both good I can see how the 1200 punches through the rough and was very smooth. I've bought the 800 though and pick it up Tuesday. Need crash bars, bash plate and paniers now. Looking at soft paniers Andystrapz? All recommends gratefully received thanks for your help and see you at the Stella

Hi

Got Givi crash bars on mine and although I haven't "tested " them as such, they feel very sturdy and cover the essentials without being too wide. Look the business in my opinion too. Had my 800GS for nearly two years 9000 miles no problems 65-70mpg and still looks great, although I do look after it and it only goes off road by accident !! I really love this bike and I reckon you will too, Er if you change the seat or get an Air Hawk cushion that is! . I'll try the new Tiger but cant imagine it being much better, hey , but who knows, time will tell .

Cheers

I've got an F800GS too, I love it, and I prefer it on road and off road to the 1200, it feels lighter and more nimble. I may be technically wrong about it being better on road, but it feels better to me, and that's the most important thing.B)

I started with BMW bash-plate and crash bars, but since I replace the exhaust headers with Remus ones, neither of them would fit  I got a metal mule bash-plate and modified it a bit, so it fits with the new headers. I've bought givi crash bars on ebay, and it looks like they'll fit wit a little persuading.

I've got the vario panniers on mine, and the standard low seat has been fine for me, though most people disagree.

I also have an Ohlins shock, and an Ohlins cartridge kit in the forks, these are by far my favourite mods, and they have totally changed the handling and comfort.

I think it's a great bike, I'll keep this till it's run into the ground, and then I'll probably buy another.

A couple of the 'gents' I ride with use the 800s and they find them top bits of kit but you'd certainly be advised to invest in some crash bars. However, during our trip to Italy last year one of them managed to throw his 800 at the scenery on a tricky, steep uphill section (which I bottled out of!) and bent the crash bar so badly it went through the engine case!

......a bit of liquid metal and gaffer tape sorted it out for the rest of the trip....so I reckon they could cope with most of what is asked of them!
