The high headstock is a necessity. Vertical twin engine with a wet sump + the necessary ground-clearance and suspension travel = high headstock and 'knacker-cracker' tank.
The 950 was a dry-sump V-twin for a reason...and this is the reason!
But one of the reasons the Yam is so cheap is it uses the engine found in Yamaha road-bikes. So I think they've made the best of a bad job. And you get a twin for the same price as a European single (KTM/Husky/AJP).

A good graphics set almost makes them acceptable , almost but not quite.

I thought the 790 was grim looking but the T7 makes it look like a supermodel !

The 950 was a design classic, functional in the extreme, won Dakar until the rules changed.

I like my 2004 950S better than the 990s and SE's I had. I can stand and look at it all day.

The Tenere 600s of the 80's were superb looking bikes, but would appear to be Yamaha's styling zenith.
You don't need to look at it, when you're riding it

790R, good looking?.................you need Specsavers

Pay attention at the back .

I didn't say the 790 was good looking, JB - I said " I thought the 790 was grim looking but the T7 makes it look like a supermodel !"

More comprehension homework for you!

IMO it is so bloody ugly - what is going on with the high headstock compared to the seat?

I'm a big T700 fan. It's the best middle-weight ADV bike out there in my opinion.

Let's park the bike and take a picture of it on a level crossing while standing with our back to rail traffic: staggering.

And in view of neighbouring properties and other road users: brilliant.

No wonder parts of the biking community get the reputation they do.

As someone who works in the industry, please don't do it, regardless of how well you think you know the location. If you get hit, you won't win. I know, because I've seen the aftermath and have been there to pick up the pieces. Rant over.
