Thanks for all the comments. Its comforting to think I'm not on my own.
Hoping next year to do a big trip (for me anyway) off for 2-3 wks. Unfortunatly
the wife does'nt want to go with me said she fancies lounging by a pool for 2 wks, but I can't hack that, so its dilemma time again. Fair play to her though she does'nt stop me going anywhere I chose to go and like wise with me.

Im defo in the live for today camp, within reason obviously.

Luckily i have a really good wife, she tolerates bikes and does come pillion but id love it if she was more keen.
I spent 10 days in france recently and she was all for it, she went to spain with her mother for a week, but France wouldve been just as good if she couldve come along.

Im a fairly late starter in bikes, 3 years november coming, but it was something i had to do as id always wanted to, but work or other stuff always got in the way.

I do wanna do more touring, not bothered about going to dangerous remote places for 6 months but Europe is vast and will keep me occupied for years to come.

I've a mate who rides his bike to the Aplineroads.com meeting every year, usually swings round by the Stella Alpina then down to the south of France to meet his missus who has fllown down to lie by the pool for a couple of weeks, he then rides back up through Europe himself, home again.
Steve has some great trips and stories, I meet him occasionally either in Germany (Koblenz for a beer) and at the Stella in Italy (he claims to have the worlds highest Ninja!) the following week.
Fiona and myself travel to Europe every summer, love travelling, seeing the sightes and meeting the different people, a life experience for sure.
I must admit I had a brush with death ten yrs ago when I was rushed to hospital with a severe heart attack and live for the moment now. So I suppose I'm biased, enjoy life, I certainly do!
Agree totally with Spud, better to regret what you have done than what you haven't!

If the kids are not a worry then do it! Do it before you go off the idea. I was lucky and got to see the world traveling around with bands as a sound engineer when I was younger but now I'm settled, married and have a 2yr old and I've not long since turned 40. So it'll be a while before I can get on any big trips myself. I still manage the odd weekend away in the summer! So go before you convince yourself its a bad idea! And don't forget to tell the story to all of us who are stuck (quite happily I might add) on this rock! :)

Just a thought - I'm giuessi9ng that the kids are 'Off your hands' as they're now more or less of age - so why not take them all with you!

Having passed 53 (a few months ago), I had my taster in the USA for 5 weeks with the blessing of Mrs R2M (thae fact it was free helped), but as with many acorns, the mighty oak is but a short while off once planted.
At my age the births, 21sts, and weddings that we attend have started to be replaced by funerals, and get well (if at all) cards:(

Do it now or keep on thinking 'one day'.

" 2 neighbours in my street took early retirement and with plans..... now have the big C.

LIFE IS JUST TO DAMN SHORT and having met a few Wanna-Go riders along with more that had been and done it, at the recent Ted Simon Foundation launch. I am more convinced that we spend our whole lives trying to please or pacify others, and leave our own wishes and contentment till its too late.

Go on, shelve the idea and become a Grumpy Old Biker (there is even a Facebook page for ya), but if you have the adventuring spirit, get on with it. The result of selling everything, or busting up a relationship is inevitably gonna cause havoc, but better to have loved, lost and traveled the world, than never have loved travelling and getting lost, at all. Bonus, you will have plenty to talk to with the other residents in the old peoples home when and if you ever decide to stop. :side:

I think you need to put all your money in a Pension and let the Bankers gamble with it so they can have their bonuses. If they don't manage to lose it all and you do live long enough to get some of it back then I'm sure the Government will be grateful of the money to pay for your old age. F*ck that.
Compromise with Mrs Al and have a week on a beach and another week on a bike trip-nobody can lie on a beach for 2 weeks.
Just do it before you lose bladder control and take up Golf:ohmy: .
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.
