Re: Stella Alpina 2017
Heading down from Scotland with a couple of mates. Planning to dock in Le Havre and then head out towards Chamonix and Mont Blanc before running down to Bardonecchia and base camp!
Hope the weather is going to be nice (and by nice I really just mean zero snow!)....

Re: Stella Alpina 2017
Last year was roasting. About 35 through the bottom of France and we got to the top due to lack of snow. 2 years before the snow line came almost down to the van so we didn't get to the top. Hopefully it will be a nice warm ride down and back. I've never seen it rain on the day itself, that would be a pain because it's so rocky.SparkyVFR wrote:Heading down from Scotland with a couple of mates. It's always the second weekend in July so it should be 8/9th. If you haven't been before you should go Chris although it's a long way on a C90 :laugh:Godspeed wrote:Do you know if its the 8th/9th or 15th/16th July?

I'll have to look into this, I think the best bet is if I leave on the Saturday 1st and head to Dover Calais then that gives me the weak to ride down, though I'll have to sleep in a bivi and lightweight sleeping bag

Re: Stella Alpina 2017
You'd be a lot better off doing it on your CB500X, it'll make it up the track no problem or at least to the snowline if there is snow.Godspeed wrote:

Then if you want to go again you could judge whether you think it's doable on the C90.

Re: Stella Alpina 2017
True, but that would make it all to easy for me, wheres the (slightly sadistic) fun in that
(maybe next year I'll try it on a 50cc twist-and-go)
I'm hoping then to head down to Tende and spend a couple of days doing the military roads there, then its just a haul back to Calais or across to Bilbao.
I've got three weeks so I should at least have a bit of fun

Re: Stella Alpina 2017
Now you're talking, the trails around Tende are some of the best I've ever ridden.
I have maps if you want to borrow them, although it may overload the C90
