A second hand sump guard was purchased. It's OK but as you can see a better one would have more side protection.
A couple of pens stashed in the cross bar pad lets me write on my hand the amount of fuel I've just bought,when in a foreign country,to show to the cashier.
Old inner tubes cut make elastic bands for whatever....easy to access and they don't even blow off when riding.
I have back up water on my rear pannier....ideal also for a quick brew up of powdered coffee..I just heat the stainless cup directly on to camping cooker/

A tube of Loctite black instant gasket in an old sock is stashed under the seat.
Where the handbook lives a tobacco tin is placed with rubber solution and patches in case of punctures.
With the XT I had to make a guard to keep crud from getting splashed in under the seat after the goofy original exhaust was removed.
Paper filter replaced with a cleanable foam one after making the air lid bigger,courtesy of a Stanley knife.
Make sure any after market filter can be cleaned in petrol when in the field. Some environmentally friendly ones will have their glue disintegrate with petrol as they specify to only use their unique cleaning product. That product will take up extra space that could be used for something else.
