I'm with Tramp; i made jump leads from 6mm cooker cable and crocodile clips for fek' all £s
we're hardly in the wilderness in UK/Europe/most of the world has 12volts in some form nearby
Why didn't Fireplace rider by a new battery or check stator output, instead of buying some tech-bling?

Re: Need to jump start your bike
I too carry a small set of home made jump leads - got many other bikers back on the road.
And for your information RoyC, Tramp is a VERY independant traveller

Re: Need to jump start your bike
last time when my 800gs had flat battery it failed jump start. was using my cars battery (900ah) not even with started car (3L diesel). them my mate mentioned he seen it before on some bike that it will only start with correct size battery. sure enough, charged the bugger and gs fired up first time. anybody had same issue? -would this pack work for the gs?

Re: Need to jump start your bike
I cant see that being an issue it will only draw the amperage it requires no matter the battery size.It may have had a voltage drop on the jump leads which caused it to drop below 12 volts possibly.

Well... It wasn't a bad price and I bought one so thanks.Rob 110 wrote:I'm with Tramp; i made jump leads from 6mm cooker cable and crocodile clips for fek' all £s

Use is
1. Jump starting (although unlikely to use often)
2. Charging phones, camera, running laptop etc. when on a trip (camping, if it can avoid me stressing about finding mains plug it's great)
And frankly I prefer to be self sufficient so for 33 quid if it does what I think it does, it's a bargain.
If I had a blade with battery/charging problems I wouldn't use one as a long term solution though!
Re: Need to jump start your bike
same leads ive used jump start other big diesel cars/vans which would have an issue normally. very weird.Andi_Archer wrote:I cant see that being an issue it will only draw the amperage it requires no matter the battery size.It may have had a voltage drop on the jump leads which caused it to drop below 12 volts possibly.

+1Tramp wrote:ive got a set of leads with croccodile clips on each end, fits in my pocket and cheap works of any car/bike battery...
On the bike I also have a fly lead connected to the battery with a tiny 50 amp Anderson connector (smaller than of a 10 pkt of fags) on the end tucked under the seat subframe. With a pair of similar Anderson connectors in the jump leads roughly 1ft from 1 end. Allows me to jump start the bike without unloading the luggage off the back seat, and removing the seat to access the battery. Which is especially useful if I'm touring.
Re: Need to jump start your bike
I've been carrying a power pack (different make) when I'm away on the bike for a couple of years and used it once but there's an argument for carrying jump leads at the same time because unless you're stopping in hotels and able to charge it up that power pack is going to go flat leaving you knackered if you haven't got a pair of leads.
The one I've got was considerably more money because they were new to the market back then and though it'll start a big old diesel pick up when fully charged it won't do it if you've been busy charging your phone and tablet off it over night. They're good but you need to know their limits

Make sure you let everyone know what the mains plug is. Not that I've any reason to think you'll end up carrying an adaptor around with you because it might not be a UK square pin plug.[email protected] wrote:Well...
