Uttarakhand India. ..help..

Post by Radzz »

Cheers guys..I'm blown away from the feedback. I've been in India tons of times with work in the past so I'm kinda used to the crap and have also experienced the infamous ring of fire, though usually I'm not so much out in the sticks as what I'm planning this time and I've never tried driving there!!...
Good tips. I'll definitely keep an eye on the sealed bottles thingy and driving at night I can well understand is a no no!
The reason I'm looking at this area is because I'm in Moradabad for work anyway for a few days prior to the dates we're planning to do the trip and it's not too far from there. I kinda wanted to visit the Corbett Tiger park whilst I'm there and that would be on the way and then work our way up to the source of the Ganges..:-)
Dave DRZ whats the petrol situation like .Is it fairly easy to come by?

Petrol was fine in Himachel Pradesh, but there were parts of Ladakh where you needed to stock up because fuel pumps were 200 miles apart.

When planning my trip I found that Google maps was accurate in saying where the fuel pumps were - take a look at the areas you have in mind.

Don't worry about constipation, when a tiger rubs itself along the side of an open land rover with you sitting in it, you will most likely shit yourself.
Beautiful animals and seeing then within touching distance is a once in a lifetime experience. Don't even think of trying to touch, not if you want to keep your arm.
Remember the words of Homer. "I'm a married man with a wife and children, eat them". (thumbs)
Also, that big log by the river or water hole might not be a log. Beware. :woohoo:

How about tying this in with the 'expat does it meet the dream thread'.
It seems to tick pretty much all of the requirements. (thumbs)

Nice warm weather. (bloody red hot at times). Tick.
Trails everywhere, (roads are often un-surfaced tracks). Tick.
Great riding up in the hill country. Tick.
Cheap living. Tick.
New Royal Enfield Himalayan. Tick.
English spoken by many of the locals. Tick.

This seems to be worth serious consideration. (thumbs) It ticks so many of the wish list boxes.

Also.

Make sure the petrol pumps zero before they start pumping. You can add several hundred rupees sometimes for fresh air..... old scam.... (thumbs)

But, the motor needs fresh air as well as petrol. So maybe they are just topping up to match the fuel.
