You can make combination tools to save weight, I have welded cut off spanners to tyre levers to make one tool out of two and save weight and space.
Run spare cables alongside existing ones to save time in the event of a breakage.
Magura levers were the best when I was competing, bend but don't break. If they don't have them for your bike drill a small hole just by the ball, that way the ball breaks off and leaves you with a useable lever.

I keep a 1L bottle of 2 stroke oil in my airbox on my 300. (thumbs)

Can't help with where to strap them, but can help with what not to do...

Don't put a good quality 21" tube (ok, it probably had a couple of patches on it... they all do..., a pair of new levers and a box of bolts etc. in a Wolfman tube bag and strap this to the *rear* mudguard of an AJP, figuring it will be OK without being bolted down. It won't.

It will fall off somewhere around ringspit lane or stockwood lane (or on the way there from Wick) and when you go back looking for it you won't find it. Irritating to say the least.
