Bought my KTM at the end of January. 8,100 miles on it now. I walk past the car and get on the bike at every chance. Don't see the point of having it parked in the garage if I could be using it.

I've done 0 miles on my bike in the last 3 months, since the speedo stopped working. :P

I think the correct response to that is that your bike will have no resale value because you've had fun on it, theirs will have no resale value because the manufacturer's just bought out a super-duper-updated version :D.

A mate of mine bought a 660 Ténéré brand new at the end of 2008. A year later and with ~10,000 miles on it he (mostly just out of interest) asked the dealer he bought it from what they'd give him in part-ex if he was to change it. They gave him a quote of about half what he paid for the bike. Apparently you're only 'supposed' to do 3,000 miles a year.

I bought mine 17 months ago with 2,800 miles on the clock (11 months old, two previous owners, and that's all they'd done!), and have added almost 20,000 miles to that since. There'll be the best part of another 3,000 on it in the next few weeks from the trip down to the HUMM. That probably means it's 'worth' about 50p ;), but that's only relevant if I felt a desperate urge to sell it and buy the latest shiny thing. What I actually want to do is find out how many miles it takes to kill it :D

I bought my new Transalp in December 2008. Apart from the first winter, as a mate asked me to keep his Sprint ST 'running' over winter, I use it to commute the 12 miles each way to work and back all year round. I also use it to go to the racing circuits where I marshal. I have just come back from a long awaiting two week adventure to Norway clocking up 2,100 miles home to home. Today the bike clocked over 18,000 miles. The wife runs the car for getting the kids about and the odd days she works.

I really do not understand the point of owing a bike and not using it. It also scares me about how rusty some of the sunny sunday weekend rider's skills are. You know it is accident season when they are out!

Having no car, I use the bike 98% of the time, the other 2% is mates' car / public transport when carrying my video-production laptop which costs more than the bike

I work from home so purely ride my bike for fun / adventure..

Done about 4000 miles this year so far..

Don't see the point of buying a bike and not riding it.. Or spending 2 days cleaning the bike after a 30minutes spin (Neighbour)

Bring on more adventure .. if the rain would stop ..
Been pi$$ing it down here, on the upside everything is very green (including my new grass)

Don`t know how you can own a bike and not use it, but maybe that`s just me.

Took a kicking on GSer forum for saying such things so each to their own I suppose.

Just can`t believe the mileage on some BMW GS1200`s, I seen 3 year old models, fully loaded with 6000 miles on them!!
In 2006 I bought a brand new Cagiva Raptor 1000 for £4,000 (+OTR charges) - it was old stock from 2002 but registered as a 2006 bike with 0 miles. I loved the bike but, on long distance tours, I suffered a lot of cramp in my legs due to the seat to peg ratio. After 3 months and 3,000 miles, I went to a BMW dealership to look at a PX: they offered me £2,000! They said it was "too high milage" So I kept the Raptor for another 3 months and put another 3,000 miles on it (it was still in excellent condition, as you would expect). I eventually straight swapped it at Orwell Motorcycles for a Triumph Speed Triple to the value of £4,000! :woohoo: B)
