My F800 takes a mixture of stuff. You can buy a specialist kit for about £130. I put a kit together from their list with Halford Professional ratchet, cheap sockets (2 torx and 3 hex sockets on one rail), torx Allen keys, a couple of spanners, mini mole grips, side cutters etc. it goes in a neoprene pencil case from Staples that cost £1.

Not a socket set, but the motiion pro trail tool.
I have that and a few extra sockets and it will bo most things on the bike

What urgent mechanical tasks do you intend to carry out at the roadside with this box of tools?
Seriously, if you go to the UKGSer site, there's a sticky of some Anerican bod's website, wherein he lists the (very few) tools you'll ever need to carry out any and all routine mileage based services and attend to any basic mishap *. They all fit into a bag that will fit near enough into the palm of your hand. Anything more than those few tools is carrying metal for the sake of carrying metal.
* That you won't be carrying a spare clutch lever (to replace the one snapped off when the bike toppled over in the car park 900 miles from home) or the pivot bolt for your gear lever that's worked itself loose over the past two months and now fallen out somewhere back along 12 miles of motorway, will render all the tools on earth useless.... As you haven't got the replacement part anyway.
PS The bod's article is geared to a BMW GS, with some of its Torx head bolts. However, it's easy to ignore any tools that are not applicable to your bike and / or replace them with those that are. I put together my own kit this way, I think it has seen action of some sort only twice in well over 100,000 miles; one of those instances was not for my bike anyway. I'll wager that some / many of the sockets / bits shown in your opening post's picture you'll never use, simply as your bike does not have a bolt / screw of that size or type.

+1 for Teng! Mine came free with a Bike magazine subscription a few years ago, and i've used it for virtually every job on the bike and around the house, and on the wifes car ever since. It has never worn out and never had to replace any bits. Quality stuff!Mike54 wrote:no contest - teng
