Good idea Minky

In reality the Microstart is just a lithium battery wrapped up with some useful regulated outputs and standard connectors, so your idea is saving some money if they aren't needed.

The early lithium batteries had a bad reputation for self igniting, but hopefully they are better now.

I wonder what the cold temp performance of Lithium is? It was high altitude and cold that reduced the battery performance for me. Both times it was with newish high quality AGM batteries (ODYSSEY & Varta) , that had a good charge after a days riding before setting camp for the night, that failed me. Once started and recharged they had no problems.

Your right on the KTM, the new ones come with Lithium's because of he weight saving. My KTM also has a kickstart, so not such a problem, but it was with the BMW I had the problems.

not so bad ythen mike you dont need one for the katoom and you can nick the ktms as back up on the dakar ..id try it on the dakar and see how many starts it gives you .mayby the dakar will need more amps cold crank ...ive been surprised how good it works ..im still abit unused to the size of the thing
ive checked the spare and its still holds steady 13.54 after a month .i keep picking the box up with the battery in and thinking theres nothing in it

they say in the instructions for real cold starting to switch the lights on for 20 seconds  apparantly it heats the battery up and makes it crank stronger after a draw /...weird after a lead one
anyway happy new year (thumbs)
whats the wether forcast ..wheres me map
