Try putting a socket on an impact wrench or cordless drill and turning the bolt at speed for a while, that might loosen up any crap that's holding on to it.

It's definitely not threaded in somewhere else and the nut is just a double locknut?

I'd thought it might be threaded into the linkage, so post-nut-removal (oo-err!) I span the bolt a fair few turns to check if it wanted to unthread. It was spinning quite easily, two fingers on the wrench, so I thought I'd hit a sweet spot but no luck.

The wheel's still on, I've jacked the bike so hopefully a bit of raising and lowering the jack'll hit the spot! I'm thinking that the bolt may have bound to the sleeve inside, I guess have another go but approach with a bit more patience and a bit less cider...

The rear wheel needs to be off the ground with enough room to get a tyre lever, or similar, beneath the tyre. With gentle up / down movements you would be able to see / feel any free play in the linkage. You are looking for the centre point of this free play where there will be no side loading on the bolt. Then the bolt should be able to be 'tapped' out - well , at least before before you beat the life out of it.

Thanks mate, I thought I'd got only a bit of loading on the bolt but I'll fine tune the jack up and down and check a bit more thoroughly. To be honest I was expecting it to be a bitch of a job beforehand so I probably went steaming in in too heavy-handedly! :whistle:

I had a similar problem with the main swingarm pivot bolt on my drz, all the needle roller bearings had gone south and the outer races had seized, it came out eventually but it was a pain.

I had a similar problem with the main swingarm pivot bolt on my drz, all the needle roller bearings had gone south and the outer races had seized, it came out eventually but it was a pain.

I'll replace all of the bearings (if I can get to them all!) whilst I have everything apart, if I decide to upgrade the shock later in the year I'd rather not have to ask the Mighty Thor if he needs a new enemy for his hammer to whack the next film :silly:
