Pick your roads to suit you, and you'll be fine on either bike.

I did UK to Slovakia on my Honda Bros 650 - passing through Czech Republic and Hungary (amongst other countries). Didn't make it as far as Romania, so I can't comment. The tarmac got a bit questionable in some places, but nothing problematic ...and I managed to stay away from any mud (guess Willandkate got lucky!).

I only met nice people on my travels, though I couldn't understand what most of them were saying :)

I am biased as I live just outside of Prague in CZ and regularily ride around in Poland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary as they are all on my doorstep. We were going to to do Romania this year but due my sister death I have had to postpone until next year. Travelling out here is just like anywehere else plenty of petrol stations, most young people speak English and there are plenty of cheap hotels to be found. This week I was up in the High Tatra mountains which border Chech Republic with Poland there are some amazing roads better than in Austria and cheaper we booked a 6 bed apartment for 4 days all for 60 quid!!

I have not been threatened or felt uneasy traveling around in these areas and you will find that most of the car/truck drivers are very biker aware and often pull over to let you through.

Just be careful of one thing that is that most shops and garages are closed on Sundays( not petrol stations) and Friday afternoons are busy on the roads as the locals go to thier weekend cottages. Petrol prices are the same as anywhere so no savings there.

Motorbikes do not pay any road tolls or taxes and all police radar is front facing so no problems there.

I am looking forward to out trip to Romania next year. I have read a lot of stories about the place but you have to go explore any country for yourself as other peoples views can be biased due to bad experiences does not mean that the whole country is the same. Wherever you are you have to resepct the locals way of life and their culture and try to blend in, keep a low profile. I was in Romania over 17 years ago when life was really bad so it will be interesting to see the changes.

If you are passing by Prague anytime just let me know and I can show you some great roads and places for food and drink. I run an expats bikers club here so you are welcome along anytime.

Cheers
