you might see that on cars that have been owned by people that live near the sea for many years, salt air you see,

but i never see it in a car only a year old, might be a good idea to look and see what its like underneath on the chassis before you bring it back to them,

2012 car, shocking so it is.

If it was caused by a roof rack somebody else fitted, VW won't be paying for it either, as just as it's not your fault, it's not their's either.

Take it back to the dealer that sold it to you and insist it is repainted.

Accident damage the dealer doesn't have to declare that to you, unless it was an insurance write off. The person who sold it to him doesn't have to declare it either, so he might not even have known about it.

I believe, if you ask the trader "has the car had any accidents or repairs?" and they know about but dont disclose it after you ask them, you have grounds to sue.

take it back and demand a refund or exchange, you really dont want the problems that will cause later ,it has either had a repair or has an unsealed seam somewhere and moisture is being trapped. :(
even if it is repaired the corrosion will have started in the panel joints and will keep comming back ,better to let someone else have the grief.

I was just about to post same as above, demand a replacement, not a repair.

This isn't a 4 year old, 30,000 mile car, this is virtually new and was sold as such, kick up a stink.

This is my concern, however do I have a leg to stand on for a return, at the end of the day this, to me, was an expensive car, one I should be having years of worry free motoring from.

This is a poor start and having had a rusty Subaru Impreza I tried to work with before... Well let's just say that didn't go well!

I'm 100% certain you have a leg to stand on, not fit for purpose, it's vw that don't have a leg to stand on.

In fairness, I don't think you'll have to much trouble with them, I bet they will be as shocked.
