Had the self same problem few years ago - in the end it all came down to my riding position and by moving the bars back - changing angles - it alleviated tension and stopped the problems completely - simples !!!Bada bing wrote:Tingling in the hands and fingers often emanate from the upper spine, if you have had any neck or shoulder pain you may need trip to your gp
tingling hands? solution please?

Russ, I have the std Honda bars on the AT
When me and Pete (knobby101) both put the Acerbis Rally Pro handguards on Pete fitted his using the Acerbis kit, which meant he had to lose the bar end but also the internal bits from the bars.
I fitted mine using the Honda internals and retained the bar ends
The difference was quite noticeable - I had no vibes but Pete did
I have since modified them having the bar ends cut on a lathe so that the aluminium wrap around would sandwich between the two bar end pieces for a stronger fit
If you look at the pic and zoom in you can just see the bar end sandwich
If you did not want to go down that route another option would be to fill them with sand and blank them off with with something so that the sand does not affect throttle movement etc

Old age Russ defo.
Change the angle of your bars mate, sounds like they may have a slight tilt forward. drop them back so that your wrists are tilted forward / down. Have a look and see if your hands are tilted up (from the wrist) as this may be the cause.
....failing that, you are getting old and knackered so get used to it.  .

Russ, you're a truck driver right?
This may be a bit of conjecture but my ol man was a lorry driver and he once went through a bout of tingling hands.
The GP couldn't really find a solution.
My ol man used to drive for Rugby Cement in one of those tankers that delivered cement to silos.
One day he was parked up on the coast making a delivery and while sitting in the cab he noticed the sea breeze coming in through a small gap in the door lining, he said he'd never noticed it before when driving due to the noise of the lorry.
He sealed it up and the tingling hands went away!
He was getting a constant but small, unnoticeable draught to his neck.
Incidentally he also suffered with migraines, they wore off a bit too.
Spurious maybe, but as I read your posts it all sounded very familiar.
Gotta be worth checking out your cab for draughts mate. I would.

Zimtim..might be onto something as the std honda bars with 30mm risers caused real stiff shoulders on long rides..thought it was cold but even in 35c it happened..so not cold..
Rotating the bars back dropped them enough to make it bearable..but the renthal bars are wider..less acute angle and lower even with the risers on than before and the shoulders are far better..
I had the bars set up forward for standing on the trails all day..but moved them backwards to put bend in the arms as they where over stretched [locked out]prior to fitting new grips as the oxford had worn through..I dont have wrap round protectors just std honda plastics..
Stan..I kick sand in your face
have a good one in spain.
Jelly- yep I suffer from tennis elbow in left arm due to constantly changing gears 16 speed box with splitters didnt help anything...but now drive auto-box so thats much better..the lorries are all nearly new..mercs and mans so no draughts...but agree about cold draughts and headaches....
Grip puppies get wet easily...I tried some enduro soft grips...similar thing...not to my liking folks..but thanks anyway..
I`ll try moving the bars position wise and doing a local run prior to europe to see if it helps..I use a palm rest for long motorway stuff to ease the throttle hand..

Re: tingling hands? solution please?
I found that I got tingling hands because the thumb on my gloves were too short causing pressure on the tip of my thumb which then became tingling in the hands.
Only happens with certain pairs of my gloves.

Re: tingling hands? solution please?
I have tingling fingers when I first rode my bike, turned out it was caused by the elbow armour in my leather jacket, it made the fit a bit too tight, it wasn't until I rode with a jumper that I realised what a squeeze it was. Took the armour out and hey presto, fixed
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

As well as checking you bars are adjusted to suit in the clamps on the top yoke, also try rotating your levers and adjusting their span to ensure your wrists are in a natural relaxed position, not bending down or up at the wrist. Also make sure you don't ride with a bend back and slumped shoulders. With a straight back, grip the tank with your knees and use your core muscle strength to hold your body weight against acceleration and braking, not your hands and arms. Loosen your grip on the bars, and ride with a relaxed bend at the elbow, leaning forward at the waist if your struggling to reach. The bike will run straight without you even holding them.
