sorry i did not get back to you, but it was raining cats and dogs here and i needed to make way for the water. yes as richard says it might just need new oil or a bit more oil. push down on front forks and see if any of the fork seals rubbers are getting wet, also ride it and press the front brake hard and see if the front suspension bottoms out. There should also be compression damper adjuster screw at the bottom of the fork, the front suspension might only need a quick service, it is hard to give adivce without seeing for myself. i would not worry about the fuel sensor the bike will run ok without that.

Glad to hear you found one, I doubt you'll regret it and with your commute the Derbi should be perfect, cheap to run and insure, fast enough to keep up and big enough to be seen, hope you enjoy it.
There's a few of us now with Terra Adventures, perhaps we should start a group :p.m.

Oh and if you're on Facebook have a look for Derbi Riders Singapore. Hardly local I know but those guys and girls sure have fun on theirs and some of the accessories are inspiration enough to get farkling.

I'm even considering getting one of these as a little run-around / touring machine. The mrs will be doing her CBT shortly and will be on a 125 for a while, so considering getting a 125 with her so we can have some fun touring together.

Hows yours been freeloadeur? I'm looking at the adventure but they seem few and far between! Is there a forum for these bikes?

I love mine, it'll cruise at 65mph loaded with panniers and roll-bag, top out at 75mph and gets between 70-100mpg. I like the bigger bike feel and the comfortable seat, in fact there's nothing I'd change. I know that makes me sound like a broken record, and given how much I post about them I'm beginning to think Derbi should pay me commission, but I've yet to meet anyone who hasn't loved it when they tried it.

There is a forum, but you'll need to speak Spanish sadly, I'll dig out the address if you'd like it. If you're going to Ripley I hope to be there, you can try it.

Maybe this could BE the start of the new UK forum/owners club Freeloader?, there's at least two of us that I know of :cheer:

They are on the tallish side Versys for a 125 so that may be a factor to consider for your other half, but I've been very impressed with my test rides, the full 15bhp does seem to make the difference, compared to cb125 or a ybr125 you're getting up to traffic speed that but quicker. Only problem I found is finding one, they are a bit thin on the ground if you are looking for a 2nd hand one,

A club of two? Well why not? I guess it'll make meets easy we can camp in the garden.

Actually, seriously I'd love to see more Derbi TA owners getting together, mainly so we can show the GS owners that they don't need the extra 1075cc, but also to show Derbi UK that they should push their bike harder, and to show accessories manufacturers that there's an admittedly small market out there they're missing out on.

I've a Derbi Terra too, parked next to my 1200GS and R100, and it does not look out of place. So that's 3 of us with Derbi's. I use mine as a campervan bike and it sits well on my EasyLifter towbar carrier as it's only 120Kg. It has a great frame and wheels for a 125 and very stable on the road. No problem either 2 up. It gets a lot of interest at campsites and most people believe it has a much larger engine.

The front suspension is also soft on mine and I have the dodgy fuel light too, flashes on and off as you ride. Not diagnosed the light yet(it came like this) but suspect a bad float sensor switch.

There are 2 areas which could be improved, the lack of torque below 6k revs and the plastic and bendy rear rack. Otherwise a great little bike.

That's 3 then, maybe we can start a movement? You're right about the lack of torque below 6000rpm I put it down to the bike's Latin temperament, I've been checking out the Spanish owner's forum for tweaks but there's not a lot to be done, perhaps a change of exhaust but even then it tends to affect top end performance rather than low end torque, I've got used to it but it does make it sound like you've revving the nuts off the bike.

As for the plastic rack mine feels solid I've picked the rear up before using it. I've been wondering about replacing it though with tubular steel but that's because I'd like to integrate it with racks for panniers.

I've heard of a 150cc upgrade but have no details, but think I'll let mine loosen up a bit first as it's only done less than 500 miles. Got this 2nd hand from a guy who's parents bought it from him as a learner and he could not get on with it. Managed to drop it though in the few miles he did in it.

I notice the flex in the carrier as I have a Givi box on it. It is strong enough but the weight makes it bend quite a bit. I'd certainly go for a metal carrier if i could find one. Probably get one on the web from Spain but not really looked and struggle with the lingo to read the sites.

Was due to go to a GSer event in Andover this weekend and was planning to take the Derbi. Would have been a good talking point having it parked in the middle of the GSs, but unfortunately could not make it.
