Diesel Motorcycle
Diesel Motorcycle
Just while having my t break I had a squint at bike comic (MCN), know a diesel bike is not new, as Enfield had 1 sounds like a massy ferguson you can see it on you tube, so what are your thoughts on a diesel bike
We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go Always a little further: it may be Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow, Across that angry or that glimmering sea.

Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Funy you should mention this pal, i bought a book for an uncle over christmas, imaginatively named "is that bike diesel mate?". Aussie fella riding a bike (looks like a mod'd xt or something) around australia powered my cooking oil. Also in there an attempt at breaking the motorcycle land speed record on a diesel bike. Someone must think it's a good idea!
no cuff too tough....
Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Read the article on the Track diesel bike in Asdas today, interesting reading apart from the price!
When I was a commuter I thought this was a great idea, good gas mileage for me getting to work cheaper. But now that I only use the bike for pleasure it's not so appealing. Also, at over twice the price of a G650GS it's a bit dear for me!
It'll be interesting to see how it gets on production wise.

Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Africajims hit the nail on the head, its the same as cars, by the time you've paid the extra to get diesel it takes away the point of having it in the first place (economy).
It does p**s me off though that my Tiger does about 45MPG and my Clio TDi does 65MPG, although to be fair to get the same performance of the tiger in a car you'd need a big engine with crap MPG.

The Track may be capable of 100mpg but it only produces 45bhp!africajim wrote:Read the article on the Track diesel bike in Asdas today, interesting reading apart from the price!

Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Might aswell buy one of these, only costs £5000 new, unleaded 10p a litre cheaper and averages 80MPG if economies your bag.Mad Cow wrote:The Track may be capable of 100mpg but it only produces 45bhp!africajim wrote:Read the article on the Track diesel bike in Asdas today, interesting reading apart from the price!

Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Diesil is not necessarily about power but torque, just like with Harley's they do not quote power but do quote torque.
The cost of diesil in the UK is set artificaially high by government duties etc. When you travel abroad it is cheaper than petrol and then makes more sense. At the beginning of December I was in France/Belgium/Netherlands and the cost of a lite of diesil was around 125.00 per litre.

LOL! Have you ever ridden a Royal Enfield?
I owned a 500 T Bullet, good grief, on a good day flat on the tank you could hit 85mph indicated, on a bad day, (wind in your face on the flat) it struggled to hit 60mph!
I loved the old bullet, it reminded me of what I loved about motorcycles, the adventure,,,,when you went out with your helmet in hand, into the shed, kick the bike a few times,,,, back into the house with the helmet,,,, it ain't goin anywhere today! DOH!
When you went to pass anything it was more a case of "will I make it?" or would it run out of power? Run out of petrol? Just feckin break down?! LOL!
I recall thinking one afternoon, "I had a Honda SS50 could give this thing a good race!"
Royal Enfield? Thanks,,, but no thanks!

Re: Diesel Motorcycle
Paul Carter from memory. My wife bought me the book at Folkestone Chunnel Port during a three hour delay, really laugh out loud funny :silly:adimurp wrote:Funy you should mention this pal, i bought a book for an uncle over christmas, imaginatively named "is that bike diesel mate?". One of my customers (Hatz GB) has an Enfield in their reception with a Hatz single cylinder fitted. When you kick it up the bike creeps across the floor on the centre stand due to the vibes. Having ridden it across the car park I would imagine it would cause some serious vibration white MEMBER problems if going any distance. It is road registered with a couple of hundred miles on the clock so has been ridden.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

I have ridden the newer EFi Woodsman and your right on the power side but I was impressed with its agility you can throw it about with modern Avon tyres. I think the latest EFi ones are built alot better too, plus electric start.
