Post by Alun »

Here's my new pride and joy complete with the Palmer Products screen which I fitted this morning - full review coming up on that screen next week.

It's early days yet but there are some very obvious differences.

1/ The older 885 felt more like you were 'sitting in it' where as the newer bike is more 'sitting on'. I've added bar raisers which have made the 955 a bit more 'sitting in'. I think the big difference is that the 885 had a customised Corbin seat and is lower where as the 955 has the stock seat and I'm sitting higher.

2/ The fuel injection on the new bike makes it more snatchy at low speeds but apparently this can be sorted by getting the engine re-map to go with the after market exhaust.

3/ The 995 is far quicker with bags more power all through the range. I wasn't expecting such a difference.

4/ The brakes on the new bike are better.

5/ The engine on the new bike doesn't sound like a diesel – mind you I liked the agricultural sound of the 'steamer'.

6/ Tank range is around 250 miles on the 995 as opposed to 150 on the 885

7/ Much firmer and better handing on the 995 the 885 had more give than a bouncy castle.

And that's just my first impressions.
