Was chatting to a couple of people at the ABR Welsh rally about trails in the Isle Of Man. So anyone been? Any advice? Where can I get marked up maps from?
Thinking about going in 3 weeks for a couple days trail riding.
Isle of Man Trails
Re: Isle of Man Trails
Hiya, just come & you'll love it. Wait til after half term & the boat'll be cheaper & quieter. That'll be after 3 weeks from today. No TRF branch, don't know about marked up maps as workin on mine - only started doin trails recently but I got a good friend who'd gladly show you on a weekend. Was a write up by (i think) Jenny Morgan in TBM earlier this year if it's on- line. Happy to help if I can, Su

I'd had just the same idea and was recommended to buy the 'official' maps at £7 plus P&P. These are 1:25000 and show byways and greenways.
See: http://www.shop.isleofman.com/acatalog/info_MAP02.html
I believe there are other legal routes but the maps are a good start. Also some routes have seasonal (ie winter) restrictions to limit surface damage.

Re: Isle of Man Trails
IOM - Its great
Tried quite a few lanes during the TT week. Well recommended, and the IOM locals are great too.
Came across a farmer when following a trail, He stopped us and asked what we were doing....Thought to myself , oh no here we go.......we told him we were following the trail....He shook his head....then said....well, you can go that way, but you will have more fun if you go that way.
I have most of the lanes loaded on the sat nav - Good chance we will meet on a NW ride out, so can share details then

The "Dirty Girls" did the IOM a couple of years ago ( great write up on ADVRider and lots of pics) Mike.
Possu or Pumpy would have the info you need or maybe have "marked" maps.
:)

Re: Isle of Man Trails
Cheers for the replies. Will get that map on order. Planning on a trip at the end of this month, so should avoid half term. Boat seems reasonable at £80ish return.
Any recommended camping sites? Close to town pref.
Anyone out there want to join me feel free. Planning leaving on the 31st Afternoon (Sunday) and returning on the morning of the 2nd (Wednesday). Gives 2 full days on the trails. Havent booked yet, will sort this week hopefully.

Re: Isle of Man Trails
Re IOM campsites. I think most of the campsites are closed by the end of October, but you could try 1) Cronk Aashen, between Glen Helen and Kirk Michael - www.cronkaashen.co.uk, 2) Glen Wyllin near Kirk Michael 01624 878231 and 3) Glenlough outside Douglas - www.glenloughcampsite.com.
Hope this might be helpful.

Re: Isle of Man Trails
Got my maps through and they show all the trails. Been in contact with the Green lane club and they have advised of the restrictions in force from 1st Nov. Only 4 lanes!!!! and as I get there a day before the restrictions it means I can get those done first!
Looking forward to it!
