Can this forum be saved?

Post by SHarper »

Can it?

Eyup, thought I’d start a thread to see if anyone has any smart ideas that could increase the traffic on this forum.

I’ve been here for 13 years now, met (and lost) some top class people, been on some terrific adventures and created some toptastic memories, all because of this forum; but of late, especially after the not been able to log in shenanigans, it can be days between posts.

Does it need a revamp?

Does it need linking to and promoting more in the magazine?

Does it need a looking at by a SEO?

Any ideas?

You have asked the questions that have been buzzing around in my head for some time Steve.

Hopefully the management will look at your questions and form some sort of action plan to get this place back to where it was . . . hopefully

People change and most have gone over to social media splinter groups , Facebook is full .

I've been a member since the time of dinosaurs remember the small camp meets and social gatherings with fondness, made some good friends ..even enjoyed the " bun fights" and dummy throwing , forums where in their infancy and facebook was still a dream in the owners nappies lol.

The only real forum is advrider but thats heavily usa people....also the old folks are older and youngsters keep asking daft questions and can't use a search engine lol...

I miss the good old xrv forum before the canada lot bought it.

I've been here a long time and attended several of the original "proper" old school rallies--tried Raggedy hall when it first started--never again--too corporate, too big, too commercial etc. Anyway, I'm a subscriber to ADV and their gifts and magazine are excellent. The big plus is no matter what bike you own there is a good following and plenty of honest, straight advice. Although USA based it does cover riders from across the globe. I currently have a Japanese import Yamaha 250 Serow and its popular in the US--plenty of farkles and advice. My previous trail bike was a Yamaha WR250R--and again a great following in the US. I also own a BMW F800 GT and once again plenty of honest advice( and from other UK owners). My Yamaha XJ900 S is also well covered. There are, fortunately, still some good old school rallies which used to be publicised on here but have drifted away, but of course are still well supported. Facebook groups are ok, but as in Indiana Jones and the last Crusade--choose wisely!! I just hope that this forum sort of ticks along for a while.

Yep been on here some time now myself & inputted a few bits & pieces over the years

Hope it can get a new lease of life, but it appears that folk who want to cannot join - had folk contact me who wanted to register for our last ABR Ireland meet up saying they could not join, if so, that's not going to help to increase interest/membership.

Perhaps the ABR Team could update us on the present situation/plans (if any) for the future of the forum??
