I went to TTR Towers tonight!! Had a chat and a brew with Brian Sussex and he showed me his next TTR has has done up in readiness to sell. It's a 2004 with 7539 miles, let me know if you want some more pics. I know he's after £1995 for it, but please know that there will be nothing that needs doing to it.

Thanks for that Harty, certainly a stonking bike from the looks, but a little rich for my budget, actually looked at a wr250f yesterday but very dissapointed with the outcome,so still looking.Currently sniffing around a tt250r,need to look at it,but picture impreesion looks good, but photos can be very deceptive, need to try it out,the seller (not trade) actually has two, have put a bid in on one but the second (not listed)is younger with less mls,so we'll see,no hurry.
Once again thanks to you and all other members who have posted. All deserve Karma.

Just back from Morocco finishing a recon of the High Atlas Traverse with Simon who, with the aforementioned Brian and others, developed a 350 barrel to give the stock 250 TTR a bit more poke. Quite a few kits have been sold RTW, and I think they’re firing up the furnace to run off a new batch.
Si also fitted a 14-litre tank and seat from the Raid version, a Wilbers with HPA on the back and other mods. Had a quick spin in the mountains. On rough trails less of a handful than my too-small and ill-damped but otherwise fine Serow 250. Seat’s a dream or I could stand properly and chug along in one gear up and down the slopes with that soft carby feel that took me right back. Apart from 1990s brakes and maybe 20% less mpg, much more rideable than my 300L, even with a grands-worth of Rally Raid suspension.

From memory it was difficult to get carburetor for 350cc. Which is why the XT350 came with dual carbs, that were not the easiest to balance. That has probably been fixed now. :)

Had an XT350 in the late 80s, though not long enough to experience carb issues.
I assumed it was just the clever YDIS adapted from the 550/600 XTs. Don’t recall they ever needed balancing either, like an old BMW for example, but I ditched XT after each trip. Must all be well worn by now.

Later TTR250 was different: 4-valve, 6-speed, electric/kick and loads better suspension. Like XR vs XL.
But Yamaha never made a 350 – same with the WR250R which replaced the TTR – and a big shame. 350 seems to be a nice number: weight of a 250 + added grunt.

Afaik, mate runs stock 250 pumper on his 350 conversion. On the rich side, as old air-coolers prefer so didn’t tick-over at 11,000 feet, but ran fine on the move.
