Peak & Derbyshire Vehicle User Group open day.

Post by Hugh »

Greetings folks,

Knowing how quickly time flies I thought an early announcement of PDVUG's open day would be in order to mark up your diary, Saturday 12th July 2025, between 11:00 and 15:00, approx..

This year the free event will be held on the car park at the friendly Yondermann Cafe, popular with bikers and conveniently located on the A623 at Wardlow, near Calver.

PDVUG is getting together with the folk from GLASS and the South Yorkshire Rural Crime Unit. You will meet fellow green lane users for you to chat with about issues causing you concern, experienced folk on hand to try and answer your questions. There will also be demonstrations using GLASS TrailWise2, plus other mapping tools.

Are the Peaks less stressful than the ‘old days’ of the antis Hugh?
Things all went quiet on the TRF info front in recent years (about anything) and now I’ve packed in the trails and left, I’m out of the loop.

Now on a 2025 Triumph Scrambler 400X but may be fitter next year.

Greetings David,
Sorry for the delay but the anti virus "Are you human" has just deleted my draft answers.

Will try again later.

Greetings David,

Lost reply again, do not use Preview

The situation seems to have calmed down a little but it is still bubbling under the surface.

Maybe a couple of our most vociferous and vicious adversaries have lost their will to fight or quite simply the costs of imposing TROs and closures are so expensive in litigation terms that most Highway Authorities are getting very cautious. The amounts of money recently wasted by Staffordshire CC is offensive, GLASS fought them and won - but - the devil is in the detail so the win might not be permanent. Kirklees and Staffordshire seem to be the local growing hotspots for attempted closures but both have recently had their financial fingers badly burned by GLASS.
We keep trying to enter into discussions about 'management' of the routes but it is so hard to get replies to emails, phone numbers have changed, people have been moved to other departments, departments have had titles changed, departments closed and subsumed into others, physical offices have been closed down, officers are working from home, many officers have left employment, the CEOs keep changing and not necessarily for the better, it simply goes on!
I think that our relationship with the Police forces has improved although the scum who go out stealing bikes and then thrash around anywhere they want does our sport and hobby a great deal of damage. Society has changed, there aren't any derelict bomb sites where nobody cares any more, litigation against landowners is so expensive and all land is owned by somebody, if people got hurt it was called natural selection but now it is a claim culture with so many people not wanting to share. Sorry I am starting to rant.
However, one thing that has not changed is our collective will, PDVUG & GLASS, to challenge unjustified closures. I think that membership of GLASS is our best option as our negotiating tool as they have a broad church membership and leadership team rather than a myopic approach of a single view!
You asked about the TRF, well in my view the local TRF groups are grand, enough said.

Thanks Hugh.

There is nothing like losing a few irrational fights to slow them down.
There is a similar situation with local authorities not being able to afford a developer appealing against a refusal or non determination. It more or less happens by default, which is both sad and dreadful.

All power to you lot up there.

Greetings folks,

"In days of old ........." we used to have very frank and friendly relationships with DCC officers, sadly some retired, some left and others were possibly reassigned other duties or as the modern way work from home. All that personal knowledge and experience lost, so sad.

Success earlier this week I was invited to County Hall where very friendly staff arranged for myself and a colleague to view certain historical maps. These old maps formed the List Of Streets, which was never a list !!! The title has changed to Extent and Highways Dept are no longer called Highways!! Anyway, I just wanted to say that the staff were very helpful and so I am hoping that the GLASS/PDVUG team might get back to first name terms and open dialogue for the future.

We previously have always had good terms with the Officers of DCC and the recent communication problems seem to stem from a lack of resources, especially a lack of people, which is so common in large companies and authorities.

TTFN

Hugh.
