The Copper Cortege in Falun 2024

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Every year there is a copper MC meeting in Falun.
Why this name,. Because Falun is famous for its copper mine.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falun_Mine

Falun Mine (Swedish: Falu Gruva) was a mine in Falun, Sweden, that operated for a millennium from the 10th century to 1992. It produced as much as two-thirds of Europe's copper needs and helped fund many of Sweden's wars in the 17th century. Technological developments at the mine had a profound influence on mining globally for two centuries. The mine is now a museum and in 2001 was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

During this meeting, a cortege is arranged. The Copper Cortege. That ends at the mine.

The bikes lines up along a road. The event is well organized. And all other traffic is blocked from the route.

Stora Stöten

Post by ErikGustav2 »

In the summer of 1687, great rumblings could be heard regularly from the mountain. On Midsummer's Eve of that year, the dividing wall between the main pits and the foundations gave way, and a significant portion of the mine collapsed. This could easily have become a great catastrophe, killing and trapping the hundreds of men working in the mine, had it not occurred on Midsummer's Eve, one of the two days of the year on which the miners were not working, the other being Christmas. Do you believe that it was random luck or that some higher power helped the poor miners ?

It created a 100 meter deep pit. That is called “stora stöten”

Long time ago, the organizers had got the permission to ride to the bottom of this pit. I did it on my Moto Guzzi 850. But now, that is no longer possible.

Early closing for this season

Post by ErikGustav2 »

The summer is not over.
But I am closing down.

It ended up with 6 000 km during 3 months. With only short tours.

I finally found a working regulator/rectifier for my GT 750.
Now it is working fine.

I gave the DL 650 new oil and a new oil filter.
(After a more extensive maintenance during early July).

Time to put them in a safe garage over winter.
And hopefully come back next summer.
The bikes are ready. But will I be ready ?

I am going to Portugal. But ...
Time for replacing the knees.
If things goes as planned.(Never happens) I will have the first surgery 12/9.
And another one when the first is OK. Minimum 3 months later.
So no riding and travel reports for this winter.
I am happy that I could do my dream trips in South America and had a nice summer in Sweden.
Even with bad knees.
I have memories. And I hope to be back again some time.
There are still rides to be done.

But...
I have notes and 340 pictures from a trip I did from Portugal to Sweden via Italy 2022.

That can be a good thing to work on during recovery.
To create a travel story.

I wish you nice and safe motorcycle travel.

I hope the knee ops go to plan and the recovery is quick, in the meantime I look forward to your ride report catch-up 😃

One last evening tour

Post by ErikGustav2 »

The tours on Wednesdays at 6 PM are running again after vacation period.
It gets dark already at 9 PM so shorter tours than in middle if summer.

I could join the group for one last tour before leaving Sweden.
Roads that I have been ridden before. So you probably recognize the place where we stopped.

Start at the gas station at 6 PM as always. 6 bikes/riders this evening
