How to get rid of musty smell on leathers?

Post by Scott_rider »

Has anyone got any tips for getting rid of a musty smell on leathers? I've got an old leather one piece suit where the leather is in good condition but it smells musty. I've washed and waxed it but still can't get rid of the smell. It's got some sort of kevlar type material in the insert panels and a mesh type non-removable liner.

I’ve always found Motul helmet interior clean very good for keeping things fresh. Not used it on leather though, apart from interior of riding boots.

This might take some curing, as it's been hanging up and unused for 28 years

Wait till the weather improves, turn it inside out, and hang it in the sun. Treat the leather first to stop it drying out.

Sunshine is anti bacterial.

When I fished a lot I would leave my nets out in the sun. Wife never complained bringing them into the house.

Not sure about leathers but I washed a textile suit in vinegar and it worked a treat.
Good luck
