The next day it was heavy rain. So I waited one day before I continued.
But I toke the opportunity to change oil and filter.

Towards Ecuador

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Now I start to ride towards Ecuador.
Staying in the Peruvian jungle.
I estimate to spend around one week for this part.
(Little more)

Some thoughts

Post by ErikGustav2 »

To travel in this area gives my the privilege to see the nature and the way people live. In a way that few western people have seen. I have not seen one western biker during my time in Ecuador and Peru. Almost all of them take the gringo trail towards Ushuaia. Here are some pictures of buildings.

I like when they have this type of roof.

Towards Pizana

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Petrol stations come in different styles. OBS 84 octane is the regular. The Himalayan can handle that. But I normally use 90 octane

It was a nice and smooth ride. With two small incidents.
First incident There were a long line with trucks where they were repairing the road after a land slide.
But I could pass the whole line of trucks. And the road was almost ready. Just a short wait.

This is a ceviche restaurant. Rather different from what we are used to.

Pizana

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Incident 2: When getting close to the town Pizana, there was again a long line of trucks.

But I passed the whole line. There was a bridge over the river, just before the town. And the bridge was under restoring. Only one file open. No problems for motorcycle. But the trucks and buses had to take ferry over the river.

Great stuff Erik, thanks for the update.
That Himmy is racking up the kilometres.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

December 29

When I was going to leave Pizana, I asked for a gas station. Yes there is one just at the exit of town.
I rode out but did not see any. I stopped and asked and was told to go back to town. There I still did not see anything. I asked a moto taxi driver. He pointed to a house just where we were. And a man outside. Yes he had petrol. He asked how much I needed. 2 gallons. He fetched a plastic bucket. And a funnel with a net on top to filter the petrol. And we filled up. Poor Himalayan.

It was a nice and smooth ride to Tarapoto. Best road conditions so far in Peru.

Some pictures from today.

House of higher standard. Brick walls.

Today is December 30. And the reason that I have time to write this is not that fun. I have got fever and pain in my throat and head. So I do not feel OK for riding. But I have a nice hotel room. Where I could do this. And waiting out the recovery. But I hope to soon continue towards Ecuador. It is a part that is a bit tricky when it comes to logistics. The villages are so few, that it is hard to plan for decent length of daily rides. I have to adjust to where there is village and accommodation.

Incredible journey ... Take time to rest now .. make sure you are fully fit before continuing. Put your health first, even if it means returning urgently. But I hope you are well enough to continue your fantastic journey.

Echo that, get well soon, you’re the reason some of us are staying sane in this horrible rainy weather 🤪
