Soft panniers/saddle bags - any recommendations? I've previously used 'SW Motech ' with the bike specific detachable mounting arms that give the bags some rigidity but they are now nearly £300. There seem to be quite a few alternatives available without the arms for sub £100 (such as 'Lomo Dry bag') so I wondered if anyone has used them? I'll only be using them once or twice a year and I need about 40 litres of capacity in total.
p.s. I do have 50 litre and a 20 litre roll top bags that I've used on the back seat but prefer saddlebags for ease of securing to the bike and access.
Thanks

Re: Soft panniers/saddle bags - any recommendations?
I have Ortlieb bags which are very good--with a stiffener at the back and an insert which keeps the form---great for trail work but a bit small. I also have a set of Lomo bags which are bigger with great(long) cross straps. These work well on the road but do sit against Givi pannier frames. I also use the frames to put a long luggage strap underneath and around the outside and across the seat for extra support. Its easy to overload them because of the size and also make sure that they sit low enough so that the main straps at least pull a bit vertically to take the load. I guess they have done about 10 camping trips without problems.

Many thanks . I like the look of the Lomo bags and also the price. I'll only be using saddlebags for road work and also without frames.

I have a pair of the Lomo throw over panniers. I used them for the Overland Event last year. I went there and back using as many green lanes as possible. This included a couple of low speed "rests" for the bike. Panniers did the job, dry, "rest" proof etc. certainly well worth the money.
Just along for the ride.

I've had my eyes on these from the states for a while, just not got round to pulling the trigger yet but they look interesting.

I use Touratech (Ortlieb) 27l universal bags. They have been in torrential rain, used as bike rests and generally used as intended
for 2 years now. No problems so far and actually quite good value for money as they are sold in pairs for less than other
top end brands sell 1 bag for.
