Just suppose you have a smart meter and a subsidised car charger, you can then pay extra to charge the car (ved) just suppose thousands of cars are plugged in to charge and access to the battery is available, the grid needs power . . .

Well before the 15 years arrives, the whole UK will have dynamic roads with wireless charging and internet access for payments, so pay as we charge as we drive … no problem.
Cars will be small and lighter and run on frictionless magnetic hydraulic track-wheels.
They will have the ability to be autonomous and entertaining and comfortable with beds [and call girls (and rent boys for ABRs) not to mention male strippers etc]
Marriage will become a thing of the past, with swappable partners, and crèche cars to unloads responsibilities.
Boat cruises will become the new way of life, with a shiny new Water World, and underwater theme parks and hotels.
Electric trains will run on time (ok.. this is too much to expect) and be silent and everyone will have a seat, but not be used much as there will be no need to travel to work, because of free nuclear power.
Oil wars will still be held for entertainment.
Arabs will keep their swords and American Cops will keep their police issue immigrant control racist hand guns
There will be so much fun in the world.

Whilst I would disagree with almost every other decision that Boris has made this is a least a step in the right direction. Although a lot of politicians and business leaders have for years ignored pollution and climate change, they are now waking up to it, partly I suspect because they can see the economic damage that it causes and the financial opportunities that investing in actions to counter its effects could provide. Yes there are problems with infrastructure but we are starting to address those. There a series of new power tunnels being built under London to provide the increase in electricity capacity needed. For most people electric cars are now viable for most of their everyday use and hybrids certainly make sense. It is the cost of them that is still an issue, when the government offers subsidies, the car companies just put up their prices.
There is a lot more that could be done, like making it compulsory for all new buildings to have PV solar panels and ones to provide hot water. Obviously we need to work on improved storage systems but there are an increasing range of options available here. Investment in public transport, which in order for it to be effective, means either nationalising it or heavily subsidising it, should be a priority.
Obviously, I am waiting with baited breath for all those who cheered on Brexit to be now heavily investing in British industry and technological development to ensure that we are at the forefront of these developments. Surely the millionaire backers of the campaign are queuing to invest their money in UK industry now.

Surely there will be an outcry from the petro chemical industries? as this move away from the internal combustion engine is going to affect them very badly?
: looked on the tinternet last night .. but not a word of indignation or outrage? .. just a piece by Shell on how beneficial it will all be to mankind?
Perhaps they see the move as inevitable and have enough outlets in other manufactures like fertilisers, plastics, oils, foods etc?

Following that, on TV was a programme about Tesla. .. I caught it half way through.
From their factory in California, they are producing 100,000 new cars per year.
Fully electric cars.
And they are constructing the biggest building on the planet in Nevada. All for EV production.
They recon that any large car producer will be able to do the same, (to produce 100s of thousands of EV cars per year) , to be up and running over a time span of just 5 years?
So perhaps the 15 year Boris deadline is not so far fetched?

Tesla use robots .. high end robots, strong robots, and feeding robots providing parts supplies, .. to produce the parts.
The cars are made of aluminium, as it is light, to allow for the great weight of the battery.
The panels are cold pressed from sheet aluminium at 50,000 tons per square inch? (I think) so there is no hot working.
The robots spot weld, weld, laser cut etc to assemble.
Electro static paint sprayed to a perfect finish.
The batteries are 7,000? lithium ion? small batteries per car.
The engine has no moving part .. just the one .. the rotor.
2000 cars roll out per week .. with expansion to come.

I have just one thing to say--"well to wheel"--the end product is just a small part of the overall emission profile-i.e energy involved in mining and smelting aluminium--please read that paper I identified at the start of the thread. Also what do you plan for trucks and 80k tonne sea going transport systems?--battery cars for inner cities then fair enough--but overall impact on the earth is flyshit--purely politics by Boris!
