My New Bike

Good afternoon,

I have just changed from my Tiger 1200 XCA to the new BMW R1250GSA, hopefully picture is attached and is the right way up!

I was in the fortunate position where things had fallen into place financially and life wise and I had the funds to possibly look at changing my bike, the GSA has always been a dream bike of mine, I had always put off test riding one as I just had a feeling I would want one and that would make things worse, but luckily for me all that had changed.

So I booked a test ride on the 1250 GSA, it was the shorter version so i was a little worried about how it would feel comfort and handling wise as i'm 6ft 2, but i had no need as it was very comfy.

When I set off I will be honest and say I did find the gears, from 1st to 3rd anyway, a little clunky on the GSA, maybe that was me not being used to that particular gear box yet or, having read many reviews, its just the BMW way, but from 4th onwards you can hardly feel anything when you click up a gear, and the power is just there waiting to be used, the Tiger was by no means slow but I always found it wanting more on a motorway, again that might just be me, but the BMW was totally different and I was impressed by that, slow speed riding was also a lot easier, i know a lot has been said about the weight of the Tiger and there was a big difference there, I found anyway

Then i got onto some local hills and twisties and again i found the GSA just that bit better, i felt more confident in corners and coming out of them the power felt just that little bit better, it was all narrow margins but the overall package was impressing me.

Then on to the TFT display and sat nav, they had put a sat nav on so i could see the whole system working and have a play on it whilst i was out and i have to say this is where the BMW excelled, everything was so much easier, being able to control the sat nav and the screen by flicking the wheel and the menu button was so much more intuitive, when I had finished the test ride and got back on to the Tiger it did feel a little bit dated which made me feel a little sad.

So I went in and placed my order, as i say it wasnt one particular thing it was just the whole package that impressed me, now to confirm one thing, i absolutely loved the Tiger and I would never say a bad thing about it, above is my comparisons and what i felt was better etc but if I hadnt have been in the position i was to look to change then i would have been perfectly happy keeping the Tiger for many years.

Anyway the GSA was delivered, and this one was the normal sized version, which was just that little bit more comfortable for me than the one I had a test ride on and i must say I am very happy with my purchase, not the best time of year to get a new bike now the ice and snow is threatening but any decent dry day i will be out getting the miles done

Nice colour scheme. I too have held off test riding a GSA for the fear of really wanting one, my S10 is doing everything I need at the moment but I do have a significant birthday next year so you never know. Eni y the new bike!

Isn't motorcycling all things to all people. I've been down possibly every kind of bike from full on litre sports bikes to GS's and everything inbetween and now I'm eyeing up a Royal Enfield.

Enjoy you're new bike, I seem to be going in the completely opposite direction.

I agree,i have owned many motorcycles during the past 42 years and the most fun i had was on a Harley Davidson MT350. I have owned a BMW GS800, a Suzuki DRZ400s and an SWM RS650R since i mistakenly sold my MT350. I think the Royal Enfield Himalayan will act as a modern version of the MT350 so i will probably sell my SWM after Christmas.

Hi,

Lovely looking bike, hope you enjoy many happy miles on it.

I have just traded in my '17 GSA Triple Black for a new 1250 GSA in the HP colours. Did look at the colour you have gone for, but fancied the gold wheels so decided on the Rallye TE. Due to collect it in the next week or so after various accessories have been changed over from the TB.

Can't wait!!
