Dakar videos 1997 - 2001

Found a great video then post it up here. It doesn't have to be about bikes.

Dakar videos 1997 - 2001

Post by Toe »

Found this channel uploading what looks like every Eurosport video of the Dakar rally from 1997 to 2001
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-cpXY ... uery=dakar

With the Dakar just around the corner (yay!) seemed like good timing!

love the old Dakar stuff not to take anything away from the modern competitors, like most motorsport it seems to have lost its soul, from my perspective (distant spectator only of the Dakar) thanks for the link.

Agreed there is definitely a charm to the older stuff when it was still in Africa!

As with any move to any country there will be controversy but tbh I'm looking forward to it! From what I've seen of the route and the 'preview' clips there should be a lot more open desert sections somewhat reminiscent of Africa.

Yes, they've thought of a great way to organise the mass start on the last day.

Everyone lines up, and they chop a prisoner's head off...when the head hits the sand, it's go, go, go!

They will have more prisoners buried up to the chest behind where the bikes line up...a mass stoning!

I wonder who will chaperone the female contestants...will they all have to bring an 'uncle' or will 'uncles' be provided when they get there?
How much time will they get to cover their hair if they take their helmets off before they are arrested for outraging public decency and sentenced to 50 lashes?

How many people will get chopped up when they visit their local embassy to apply for a visa to attend the event?

o .. that's really unfair ..
from what I have read, the Saudi's are
at the cutting edge of liberal journalism,
experts at tall building demolition,
ingenious at soldier-training security testing,
seducing grabbing boxing promoters,
manufacturing cotton letterboxes,
and loaning ss brough superiors to british citizens ..
they sound like good guys to me 8-) :?

though I dont see much self-sacrifice as displayed by their neighbours
in the area of personal munitions testing,
showing the gulf between them?

still .. perhaps it will become a Mecca for bikers?
