Thanks for the suggestions about an electric bike for my father-in-law.
Going to look into converting one of his existing bikes, sounds like a good little project and a good use for what is still a quality suspension mtn bike.
Cheers

Just be aware, the frame shape is critical, some bikes have a swan shape which makes the bafang hang too low, if it’s getting any off-road use this can be an issue.

Also hub motors generally aren’t suitable or any good offroad

500 quid buys nowt in ebike second hand as youve got a perfectly good bike just add a rear drive wheel with twist throttle and 48v battery for distance... If its just a get about then that will be fine... Ebay is okay... Mkst stuff comes from china the battery is important bit..

Visit a uk shop to try some to see how he manages and remember the assisted bit requires input... My wife has a converted one, she loves it pedals on flat then uses power for hills.. The charger is important too to get best out of battery..

And make sure the battery is secure from nickers and scroats..

Just joined the ebike fraternity and can only say I love it, going further and more interesting tracks than I could on my analogue bike.

I get stopped by more walkers than ever before not to complain but to complement and ask questions and make enquires to cost ect.

Do walkers generally complain as you approach well the turkeys with the headphones in can't hear you in any case and I'm waiting for the first one to drop dead of heart attack after I have shouted at them to make them aware I am there or tapped them on the shoulder which usually means an early return off their walk for a new set of underwear, at which point I usually say something along the lines check your wallet as I ride off.

The countryside is there for all, I ride a dr 350, a gravel bike, an ebike and have been known to chuck a leg over a horse every now and again, there is room for all if people allow it but as usually some turkeys will ruin it.

Wales has become aware of the £'s attached to the cycling community now a days and is looking to open more trails and if they wanted to they could probably kill of "greenlane" bikes if they used their sense

Now to get a really fast trail dog to come with me, my "jacks" are a little long in the tooth now to do 20 plus miles.

Oh one last point if I had of been able to get an good ebike at the time I was looking at a "greenlaner" I probably would not of bother with one, far more access on my ebike.

enjoy....

cheers Spud ;)

So what make/model is that bike, Gary? Just interested.

And can it come with a non-suppository saddle ?
