Bloody BMW prices

Post by Brads »

Bike had it's 18k service and has taken 2.5 yrs to hit 24k service, so went in for that to get booked.

Turns out I've missed 2 annual services, mainly because it had hardly moved, so I'm looking at the thick end of 800 quid.

That and my warranty renewal and I'm taking a hit of well over a grand.

vomit.

If you want to buy the extended warranty then you’ll have to swallow it probably.

Is there an independent BMW specialist near you?

So you have to cough up extra money for 2 services you didn't need ...... just so you qualify to give them more money for a piece of paper which effectively ties you into more needless annual services in the future  .
Once my gs was out of warranty I serviced it myself, that was 9 years and 34k miles ago ....... and no breakdowns or repairs needed.

All of my bikes have been self serviced apart from this one, and it's purely because the warranty is about the best you can get.

They have actually called back and have paired it down to 550 for the service so I'm not getting hit for missing the other 2 yearly services.
Still shitloads though.

The warranty doesn't cover suspension after 30k miles so thats when it's getting binned. The European breakdown cover is the best of the best though so that's a big part of why I've kept it up.

18k to 24 k is like 6000 miles .....a grand for a service , thats 1000 divided by 6000, then . According to my maths, give or take a fraction , thats nearly 17 pence a f*%$ing mile. Something in your life is very wrong mate. Surely get it done at a proficient independant.

In order to retain the warranty the law says that the vehicle must be serviced to the manufactures standard by a competent mechanic. In other words your local bike shop, if they are able to, could do it for you. Four years ago me wife bought a new Toyota it goes to the local garage for about a third of the cost of going toToyota. If you can prove that you are a qualified mechanic you should be able to do it yourself. One of the benefits of the EU.

I just bought an almost mint 2 owner 1983 BMW K100RS 29,000 miles for less than the cost of that service..........€1,000. Its tight as a ducks ass and beautifully maintained with some nice upgrades.

I do my own servicing..........they also seem easier to do than more modern machines.

I seem to keep buying these things at €1,000 a time and never sell them on...depreciation doesn't even come into the frame.

With good servicing and maintenance I trust them to take me anywhere. Parts availability is amazing too.

Yep I love BMW prices.....

Best thing is to find someone independent and do the basics yourself.

BMW (like many bike and car manufacturers) are ramping up the price of their products so that the vast majority of customers are forced to go down the PCP route, that way we are forced into main dealer servicing.
I suppose us 'homeservicers' are not of interest to BMW.
