TRF Feedback.

Hi all, what a great weekend that was, big thanks to Alun and all his team for all their hard work, such a great atmosphere

As you may or may not know the TRF had a stand offering different rides in the local area and beyond, what I'm after is, if you attended any of the rides, or just came over for a natter about what we do as a group, what did you think?

I know there are strong feelings about the TRF ( the old Marmite scenario ), but all feedback, be it good or bad would be much appreciated, what did you like, were people helpful and engaging. what didn't you like, I'm after specific view and opinions on the TRF at the event and not general views on the TRF.

We're hoping to be there next year ( TRF's 50 Birthday ) so we are looking at ways to improve what we do.

I for example had 2 riders on one of my longer rides, that we're only looking to head out for a few hours, but got tagged on to my group by mistake ( I hope you both enjoyed it none the less )
I did here that folk were waiting a while in some instances, for ride leaders to head back.

Also a big thanks to all the TRF volunteers that helped with the stand and the on site track marshalling, as well as the ride leaders, all of whom do it all at there own cost.

I didn't do a TRF ride, however I thought they would be a half day or full day ride taking in a 50 or 100 miles loop of the Cotswolds - like you get if you do a TRF weekend event like the Wessex Wander, with matched bikes like a group of sub 500 cc enduros, a group for 6-700cc middleweights and another for 1000cc big traillies

I wouldn't be interested in a short ride out, more like a full day and this could be booked in advance with TRF knowing before the ABR weekend the numbers/type of bike and experience so they could grade like minded souls together

my observation as a guy turning up on spec was ...
had no idea what que to join ..and no idea what time it set off and no idea how long the loop was ...

think it needs some signs put up ....enduro big bike ect set off time /duration

I didn’t really want to go greenlaning when there was a perfectly laid out and marshalled route in the park, so I didn’t even think of coming over to enquire.

Did I miss a road based ride out around local lanes and the odd ford crossing with touristy locations, twisty roads, pub stops and lunch breaks?

If not, then phew, but maybe next year?

I went out, with you guys, on the 'intermediate' (middle line) group. Leader was on an older KTM (Sam?). Was a great ride out. You obviously checked out the route beforehand and made it very enjoyable.

Hi Stewie,

Firstly I want to say a big thank you to yourself (Friday and Sunday rides), Adam (Saturday ride) and all the TRF staff for putting the rides on. I thoroughly enjoyed the rides and talking to members about what the club do and who rides in it.

My feedback would be to change the names from beginners, intermediate and expert to different levels as I have been to other events and it works well. It is less intimidating and if you say to someone nervous they have to start with level before they can progress it normally works well.

Clear signs as to what is involved on each ride and the type of tyres required. Something like below:
Level 1 - Road tyres, gravel tracks, no or a small amount of wet mud and a shallow river crossing up to 30cm on a surface with grip. 1-1.5 hours.
Level 2 - Off road tyres mixture of gravel and wet mud, deeper river crossing up to half a meter and around 2-3 hours so that there are morning and afternoon runs to save people waiting for someone to get back.
Level 3 - The hardest you can find in the area. Time wise I think that it will be a far longer ride to get to anything challenging.

I Was on my Africa Twin and i am not sure if bike size is relevant as there were a lot of people on smaller bikes that were struggling more than some the bigger bikes, plus the event is aimed more towards larger bikes.

Thanks to the rides and conversations I had (Adam informed me there are a large number of big bikes in the oxford group) I will be joining the TRF to show my support.

Hi Stewie, sadly I didn't get to ride with you guys this year. By the time I came to join a ride on the Saturday (about 2pm), you were fully "booked". Unfortunately my girlfriend wanted to go for a road ride together on the Sunday so I had to make do with the on-site trail, which was great anyway and gave me a good workout and shakedown of my new bike.

As mentioned I think more formal start times are required and a booking system, so people can plan when they're are going riding and how long (approximately) they'll be out.

The groups should gather at least 15 minutes before departure time for briefing, and there could be a pool for unbooked "hopefuls" to fill any spare spaces from "no-shows".


Something else which would be nice is if there was a list of GPS coordinates for the trails in the area, or a SatNav route, for those who wish to explore on their own, maybe at another time when they don't have their girlfriend with them
