Les Grande Route des Alpes - Current info?

Post by Spike941 »

I’m off to the French Alps next week, half hoping to ride Les Grande Route from Annecy to Nice, overnight ferry to Le Havre on Friday. I’ve ridden Les Grande Route a few times, but not quite this early in the year. Google maps show the high passes still closed, with opening dates in mid June. I guess they are accurate, but does anyone know otherwise, or has anyone been up there in recent days/weeks?

Best look at the French department sites for up to date information, like this one: http://inforoute.hautes-alpes.fr/www/index.html

We got away with it last year in June with only a very few extreme bits shut but …… the main passes will probably be ok.

Thanks for posting this. Appears way more accurate and currently showing most passes opening this weekend.

They're useful as they seem to give up-to-date information. A couple more sites:

http://www.inforoutes06.fr/fr/#6107

http://www.inforoute04.fr/

And some webcams to get an idea of what the weather is / has been:

And the forecast: http://www.meteofrance.com/previsions-m ... ette/04400

I stayed in Barcelonnette for three nights last year, so found these sites very helpful.

Yes indeed, so much to see and so many passes a short distance away, and a small enough place for it to feel friendly :D
