There are apparently lots of things that can go wrong with prostates that aren't ( to use the medical term) "sinister". Inflamed , enlarged and that sort of thing. They still need sorting though.

The Doctor cannot refuse you a referal to a specialist. If you are at all worried , go and see a specialist if only for peace of mind.

I don't know what it's like at your practice , but where I am it's difficult to see a Doctor you know, rather than a Locum. This doesn't help , because this 'here today gone tomorrow' method of delivery means that there is a lack of continuity in treatment, and repeat questioning , and examinations, which is unneccesary.

The test is not the most reliable indicator, as things like whether you have recently ejaculated will affect the reading. The rate of rise is used as an indicator of whether further investigation is wise , if it was 3 last year, 4 at Christmas and now it's gone up to 5 then something needs looking at. It is never used solely as a means of diagnosis , but as a pointer for further investigation.

The worst thing about an enlarged prostate is, when camping having to get out of a warm, snug sleeping bag and goes outside for a pee ( especially when it is raining). Lenore bottle in the tent-problem solved!

(Other detergent bottles are available)

I had blood tests after being told I have an enlarged prostate but thankfully they came back all clear.

The peeing business is nuisance though.

I told my doctor, It’s like my bladder is the shape of an hour glass so I can only empty the bottom half before needing to go again a few minutes later.
She though that was a great analogy and then burst out laughing when I her told her its problem walking the dog because I cock my leg more than he does!
I don’t like taking tablets but she persuaded me to take Tamsulosin so I only have to get up in the night once or twice now.

Hope the tests come back clear for you Steve but don’t worry yourself too much in the mean time.
