2019 CB500X Let the Farkles commence

Post by dubber68 »

Well the second day of ownership saw high winds and rain so there was nothing for it but to start adding some farkles to the new steed. The first of these were Oxford touring heated grips. These went on easily enough apart from some filing required on the throttle side to allow the grip to slide over the plastic sleeve due to a lip on the outer end. Next up was fitting the genuine Honda 12v power socket. This is quite fiddly to do but possible without removing any panels, however the plug on the end of the cable seem to be different to the spare on the loom. I will have to have another look at this but I will be fitting a switched fuse box in the future so I can wire it to there if need be. Next up was a couple of ram mounts. The first was a simple bar clamp affair the second one however saw me getting a little creative. I had a spare plate mount and ball so I cut the ball off of the plate and drilled and tapped it in the centre. I then drilled a hole through the accessory bar and bolted it directly to the bar after filing a half round on the end and covering any exposed aluminium with heat shrink. The end result is less obtrusive than another clamp set up. Next a trickle charger plug and heated clothing plug were added which will also move to a switched fuse box when the correct terminals for the options socket under the seat arrive Finally I added some colour matched reflectives at key points. More to come but at least now I wont get lost or frostbite in my fingers.

Great looking bike that :)

On the CRF Rally there aux cable had a socket on the end that I couldn't match, turns out it was a socket with an unterminated plug stuck in it.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Yeah I've ordered the crimp terminals that you fit in side that plug. There are instructions on the CB500X forum. I should have some spare if you need a couple for anything.

Thank you for the offer but Boboneleg kindly trailblazed this. I too installed a small fuse board to run various sockets etc :)

Well more farkles done today. I have fitted Givi racks and managed to get the Magadan panniers to fit. As the racks were for a 2013 on bike they took a small amount of modifying but the end result is quite good.

Mate, you may wish to obscure your number-plate.

A mate of mine in Wales put up loads of pics of his Husky out trail riding, including a few where the number-plate was visible, on another forum.

Next thing, the speeding tickets started to arrive, from Hertfordshire

Yeah I would of liked them further forward but the rack really dictates their position. The only saving grace is that they are quite light when compared to hard panniers
