International driving permits

Post by crofty »

Got a trip planned to the Balkans in May. My research is telling me that Montenegro and Albania might need a IDP nowadays.
When i got to the post office the person there said the latest Gov advice is to get one for all Europe as after brexit UK licences may not be recognised. just wondered if you thought this was more Project Fear ?

No, it's all made up.

Just show them the blue passport and tell them you are English.

If in Germany chant "Two world wars and one world cup"

In France: "OO do you think you are, Napoleon?"

etc etc

The cowardly foreigner will back down in the face of English pluck.

:D

Seriously...there are no guarantees: you might need one, you might not. It all depends on just how idiotic our MPs are. Currently we have European licences...post-Brexit, who knows?

In the event of a no-deal brexit, you will also need to carry a green card for your insurance, and it must be valid for the countries you intend to pass through.

I'm considering putting a filing cabinet on the back of my bike so I can take all the necessary documentation with me on my next trip post brexit.
I wish I had a crystal ball :D

And anyone with an EU licence from the 27 remaining countries can drive in the UK after brexit without needing an IDP.

Good article here on the possible legal implications of Euro driving in the event of a Brexit with "no deal"... along with some other areas that will be impacted.
