Nice work! is it just me or does anyone else love looking at pics of other peoples mechanical skills? I love it because I'm so shite at spannering (I can change oil, and filters, and even do wheel bearings!) but it really inspires me to want to buy a project bike and do all the work myself ! I would probably balls it all up and it would cost twice as much as buying a running bike, but I love tools and have loads that I have bought on a whim and don't know how to use! and in my mind my garage would be all kitted out and warm for the winter months, when in reality its a freezing cramped mess full of the wifes shit!!!!lol...

So im happy to just marvel at others skill for now. Keep the bike porn flowing please …..

My dad got me into bikes and eventually becoming a mechanic by buying me a running but knackered Honda C90 for £3 when I was just 9 years old. When I was 12, he bought me an Austin Allegro which had failed its MOT. Neither cost a lot, but both allowed me to gain confidence to do anything with them. As I started high school, i could service a car or bike, including doing valve clearances, setting points and ignition timing etc. When I started my apprenticeship at 16, most of what we were being taught I already knew. My advice would be to go to a salvage auction, buy a stolen car or bike without any identity (sold for parts only) and get a workshop manual for it and practice. If you are careful, you can reuse gaskets a couple of times before they need replacing (if you have to buy new ones, coat them with grease so you can disassemble and reassemble many times). Once its served its purpose, break it and sell the parts.
