S10 poor idling and missfre at speed problem

Post by Dark Knight »

Finally got to the bottom of this problem which should only affect the XT1200Z in the years 2010 to 2013 due to faulty plating on the wiring contacts.
After months of investigation by me and my Yamaha dealer, the fault was due to faulty plating on the cableform wiring contacts from the TPS to ECU.
This is the same problem as we saw in the headlight cableform recall.
What was happening is that the faulty contact plating is disrupting the relatively low current (we should really call it charge) flow between the TPS and ECU.
There was a similar problem on the R1 and this was rectified by recall number RM/2013/031, this uses a separate cableform from the TPS to the ECU.
This cableform also fits the S10 and is the cure.
Wrote to Yamaha UK about this, as one aspect is that the revs will not go below 2000 RPM which i considered a safety issue, but they were not interested.
Will bring this up at my local motorcycle group for agreement before going to the UK recall authorities.
Investigation file attached.
