I have to ride up to Aberdeen from Cheshire on Thursday.
I'll be setting off at about 05:00 and I want to arrive in Aberdeen around 16:00.
I'll be heading north on the M6 for the first stage.
Rather than just bash all the way up the M6, M74, M8, M90 etc... can anyone suggest a better (more interesting) route?
Would you push on up the west then cut across towards Aberdeen further north or head towards Edinburgh then up to Aberdeen from the the M6 in the Carlisle area?
I've got a comfortable 10 hours to do the journey in, I won't be getting off the bike to look around cities or towns.
I'd like the most traffic free scenic roads....the smaller the better.
I can look on google maps and easily plan a route that looks interesting but a bit of local knowledge is invaluable.
Cheers!
A nice route to Aberdeen.
Re: A nice route to Aberdeen.
For the last stretch I would definitely go from Blairgowrie to Breamar then in royal Deeside to Aberdoom.
To get to Blairgowrie you could do the A68 from Darlington to Edinburgh , then there's no option but bypass round Edinburgh, across the new Forth Crossing and up the motorway to Perth.
Another option is Penrith to Hexham and up to A68 .

Instead of the M74. The old A74 (B7076 & B7078).
Runs parallel and makes for a far more interesting ride!

Re: A nice route to Aberdeen.
It's a shitty trip, but I promised myself, that whoever Burnley drew in the Europa League I'd ride my motorbike there to meet my sons at the game.
It could have been Ukraine, Turkey, Russia etc.....so may be I got off lightly
Re: A nice route to Aberdeen.
Nope you never got off lightly.
Somalia would be a better trip than Aberdeen.
Anyhoo, as long as you end up in the Cairngorms at least part of the trip will be nice.

Re: A nice route to Aberdeen.
Have a look at this
You can always beat the google time so should allow time for a few rest stops
Basically Skipton, Hawes, Middleton, Derwent Res, A68 to Edinburgh, over the Bridge, a blast up to Perth, Braemar, then Aberdeen from the west.
