Re: Midges
Your in luck, in a way cos no rain = no midges
But..........
The horse flies, or clegs as they're called up here, are out in force
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... s-44695515
Suffered them last weekend up at Durness - fecking squadrons of the blighters. At least you can easily see them, just before you cause a blood splatter as you kill them where they land

This site gives a good idea of what's happening. In their interest to make it sound worse than it is:

Re: Midges
The midges have not been that bad in Gairloch this year, but as Steve pointed out there are a few clegs about, I was up the hills allday on me bike and not a single bite.
As for the Smidge forecast take it with a pinch of salt, its the people who sell Smidge that do the forecast

Re: Midges
A bit hit and miss with the clegs I think.I'm on a couple of hillwalking Facebook pages and they're an epidemic in some places but I've been camping in the East Cairngorms the last two weekends and haven't seen any.

Re: Midges
We had a trial up Trough of Bowland last Sunday observing was a nightmare the Clegs kept giving their mates directions to me I had to knock them off with my observers board
***just like Britney Spears oops I did it again……sold the Scrambler & as of now there may not be a replacement***
Re: Midges
It can't be any worse than Cornwall at the moment, the Horse Flies or 'clegs' as youse up north call em we're a nightmare. I really can't decide which are worse, there's more midges but the clegs pack a nasty wallop & won't even stay outside
With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything
