Wiltshire has a special kinda rutt ....very narrow and lits of intersections....the ridgeway is a right bastard....and enduro tyres that lke to cllimb out at every opportunity....

Totally correct. Wiltshire was a nightmare for me last year.
I bent my right bar on the 690 back so far I couldn’t stand up on the pegs properly....100m into the first lane on a deep narrow chalky rut..
Hated the Ridgeway multi ruts with a passion.
Rode back to Salisbury on the road via Avebury and a nice pub stop in Marlborough.
Got home and bought a nice light Husky.

In Sussex the lanes are mostly overgrown with trees so I can’t stand up anyway.

I'm sure the younger guys just power through the ruts but as you get older you know it's going to hurt when you fall off so we older gentlemen tend to tense up which makes it worse , having said that I remember Being in the Pyrenees with PIF and he said to me speed is your friend in ruts !!!! , he then proceeded to demonstrate hitting the deck 100yds in front oh how we laughed , he very often does get away with it tho , joking apart he is a good rider and I'm not that good , so my theory is its no good getting older if you don't get any wiser , ride a bit slower and get a 250

Best one I got was one day at the supermarket this little one is looking at me as I pull up on the bike and awed at the size of it. Fair enough, wants to see it being parked up.

So I hop off and take off the helmet with gets the response 'fokin hell you're a grandad'. I laughed so much and all the mother wanted the ground to open up. 62 last Tuesday and no plans to give them up.

71 this year--just got back from the Dordogne-exploring local tracks and trails for two weeks-on my own--camped and rode the WR down and back--and still get out with the usual suspects in Wales etc--the secret is a low seated bike for the really gnarly stuff--I have a kawa Super Sherpa for that--and the Yam is more of an adventure bike as it takes luggage etc--and I have a 1050 Tiger. I must admit that having cracked a rib and torn the same knee ligaments twice in the last couple of years that I don't heal as quickly these days. However, if you sit about on your ass you will fade away. I started riding on old brit bikes in fields etc when I was about 14--and haven't stopped.
