Re: French fuel blockade nation wide
I have a certain grudging admiration for the French (apart from when I'm there and my flights are cancelled again due to air traffic control!) but from a distance at least the people seem to have some power and they come together quite effectively to force the government to consider their views (or back down)
In the UK we will all bitch and moan (inc me) but there is rarely any joined up protest against government policies so we usually get what we deserve and our moans quickly become tomorrow's fish and chips wrapping.
Go Fenchies I say! (Apart from the second week in August )
Jonesy

Yep, principles need fighting for. Most of the things we regard as normal human rights today were battled for by people prepared to sacrifice their pay or legal status to introduce, usually against the vested interests of the establishment. French workers have fought for decades to defend rights that UK folk gave up far too easily years ago, usually in return for short-term thatcherite bribes. Worth every bit of the temporary inconvenience caused by strikes.

Viva la republic!
However I'll be slogging across France on Friday to get to the Black Forest, is this likely effect me? Should I divert across Belguim/Germany? I've only got a 10 litre tank so I don't have a lot of flex...

And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

One of the most disgusting things about the palm-oil business is the way it is 'wrapped in green'.HedgeHopper wrote: βSun Jun 10, 2018 5:46 pm Yea, sorry if it causes you grief Tramp, but tbh the Palm oil business is effing shocking.......that recent footage of Orang-utans homes being felled whilst the still clinged to them had me in tears

The British Govt has campaigned against it...and the Malaysian Govt has threatened to cancel an order for Typhoons and buy some French aeroplane instead in exchange for French support on palm oil. So I'm glad the French people are kicking off about it.

Oh so true. What is it with the Brits, still the inane belief that our illustrious Govt is fully transparent and working for the good of all?jonesthesteam wrote: βSun Jun 10, 2018 5:38 pm I have a certain grudging admiration for the French....the people seem to have some power and they come together quite effectively to force the government to consider their views (or back down)

We're rapidly screwing this planet & it's inhabitants to hell and we'll all pay for it later, or our children will. All for greed, ego, power or pure stupidity.
Sad.
