erzberg rodeo Austria road trip from UK

Post by blade7 »

Just starting to plan for road trip to central-western Austria erzberg rodeo the fasters route is about 900 miles going through Belgium dropping down to Germany then ending up in Austria. The rough plan is have about 8 days to get down there then blast back in about 2 two 3 days back any hint tips or places to stop or divert to on the way down or any known spots where fuel food or beer is going to be in short supply I get about 150 ish miles to a tank

Google, Pension Williams, just off B500. Excellent stopover. They English, they know everywhere to go. Honesty bar. Drying room. Steakhouse pub just up the road. They will drop you off and pick you up if not too late. Been there 4 times. Ace..

Also, get to Garmishe Partenkirshen for the BMW festival... Google that too. Have fun. See you there

We went last year taking the bikes in the van. Left Cheltenham at 3pm on the Wednesday, stopped in Brussels at 1am Thursday, left at 6am and got to Eisenerz at 7pm. Literally just in time to register and get the bikes scrutineered. If we’d hit any traffic or stopped for longer we’d have missed it. We rode the first Prolog race on Friday blind, having not been there in time on Thursday to inspect the course.

Camp in the village at the sports centre, book online early beforehand. The facilities are basic but they serve food and beer at very reasonable prices. You can stay at the mine but there’s an inch of dust everywhere and no facilities. Make sure you have your driving licence on you when riding. The whole thing is mental but absolutely brilliant.

The most depressing bit on the way back was getting on to an autobahn in Germany and the satnav informing us it was then 660km to our exit!

We stayed at Ali's for our trip there, very hospitable and showed us all the good roads. http://www.pensionhausmaria.com/ A few from here can recommend it.
