Lake District 19th to 21st Jan

Post by Tonylancs76 »

Afternoon All,

Does anyone have any recommendations of decent B&B's in the Lakes? hoping to get away for two or three nights next weekend and as I am incredibly soft I don't think i will be able to cope with camping at this time so looking for a bit more comfort.

Any recommendations/advice is greatly appreciated, my aim is to do all the passes up there and see places a bit further afield than Windermere and Keswick etc which is where I usually end up.

Cheers,

Anthony

Did that last year, stayed at the Premier Inn on the edge of Cockermouth. Worked for me.

I’d recommend Eskdale at the western side of the Lakes as it’s cheaper and also the prettiest area with Wasdale, Hardknott, Wrynose and Langdale close by. The Kellbank in Gosforth is relatively cheap and the food is good. The large rooms have two doubles in too, so you can share rooms to reduce cost (although your wife’s may not be keen on the idea if they’re coming too  )

I’ve eaten there before (it’s also in Eskdale) and stopped in the pub across the road, which they’ve now taken over. It does sell out early though even at this time of year as it’s close to Wasdale Head and Scafell Pike

It looks like you've picked a decent weekend weather-wise, forecast is DRY but cold, down to -06 at night.
Have a good trip.

Thanks for the replies everyone, is greatly appreciated.

I've managed to sort out a cottage in Newby Bridge, including a log fire so its nearly like camping! Go on Saturday and come back Tuesday, have noticed a bit of snow forecast this week but looks like rain afterwards which will hopefully wash it away.

Cant wait to get up there and do a few days exploring away from my usual roads etc, not sure what the passes will be like though if these been snow as it can be totally different at the top to what its like at the bottom so will have a ponder on whether I do those

Cheers again,

Anthony

Any snow will need to be quite bad before it effects the Newby Bridge area for long, usually snows and then melts nearly as fast over there.
