The way Adam shoots and edits the Motonomad stuff I think it would appeal to everyone, well edited and very cinematic it really gets you hooked, next film has been shot and it due next year.

A more innocent age...glad that I am old enough for it to have just touched me.

As a teenager in our village, it was considered acceptable for a young person to push a motorbike along the road and up the bridleway past the last house, then start it up and ride up to the chalkpit at the top of the hill, and ride around until the bike broke down.

If you met anyone on the way, you had to slow down (or stop if it was a horse) and say hello politely.

If the police saw you pushing the bike on the road, they used to ask you to 'disable' it by taking the lead off the spark plug, if you hadn't already. That way, it wasn't a motor-vehicle!

And 'stubble racing' in the empty fields post-harvest was acceptable too.

Where did it all go wrong?

Was it youth with no manners or consideration being anti-social?

Or was it uptight gits who can't bear to see anyone enjoying themselves when they should be either shopping or watching advertisements on TV to encourage them to shop?

Very good post. It is indeed quite sad. I was a teenager in the late 70s/early 80s and I was part of a little gang of harmless scrotes who did up falling apart little AP50s, fizzies etc, then rode them down the 'rec' or the old bomb-site that had still not been re-developed. We rode until the bike broke or one of us did, we learned how to ride (school of hard knocks etc) and we pushed the bikes home. The police knew about us, looked in on us occasionally and had a chat. No harm done. We took the piss now and again but never anything that hurt anyone and we were fundamentally polite to others. We graduated to bigger bikes and cars, fags, booze, cannabis, gigs, parties and clubs - again all for our own pleasure and we didn't harm a soul. None of us earned loads of money but we could afford to run and insure a Z550 or a GS1000, a Mk2 Escort Mexico or a Fiesta XR2. All of us had moved out of the family home by the time we were 19, generally to rent rooms in shared houses or shack up with girlfriends. We had a lot of fun, spent all our spare time out and about, we met up in person and hardly ever phoned each other!

OK true, it sounds like a load of old rose-tinted nostalgia. Bad things happened too. But it was definitely a freer time to grow up, with less in the way of complaining old gits moaning about everything young people did and certainly more of an outdoors life. I feel sorry that this life doesn't seem to be so available to young UK kids today.

Christ get a grip guys. If it's that important to you then do something about it. I live to ride bikes and firstly moved to Turkey and now Bulgaria so I could ride with freedom off road. But to be honest when I return to the UK I still ride the same old trails around Cornwall SOLO and get no hassle at all.
Don't take any notice of the press or forums it's still there you just have to ride in the week and solo.

OAS was of its time. It shouldn't be compared to modern day stuff- in the same way that early James Bond should not be compared to modern James Bond- beyond acknowledging a similar category.
I'm a fan of narration/documentaries. I enjoyed the LWR, but also really enjoyed Mondo Enduro. I really enjoy seeing that what appears infront of your armchair can be achieved by us mere mortals. As with all films/art- they often haemorrhage money- sponsors/famous people & a fiercely loyal niche market all help reduce the bleed; particularly if you can then get it picked up by regular TV, this then leads to a wider audience & hopefully a larger motived audience.

I dare say that had Austin Vince not managed to get Mondo Enduro on discovery(?) things might be different; the same with Spencer James Conway & travel channel.
I think Ed Marches DVD cost £20K to make and while hugely entertaining, I'm not sure it would get picked up; while Austins most recent offering weighed in at similar figures.- as a privateer/self funder it can be a gamble- who here would attempt it?

I think OAS was a great gamble and I for one am happy it was made.

It obvious to me that there is indeed a need for a new On any Sunday, reading some of the post on here.
