Its very wise to learn the pattern of that airflow if you are riding motorways. Overtaking artics and coaches in particular......front of the vehicle pushes the air out and away creating a vacuum up against the vehicle [which is why the old smoking area was at the front] but it then curls back in against the side of the vehicle further back....so as you approach a 90kmh truck from behind initially you get turbulence, then you are sucked in towards it, then as you pass you react and steer out, but then as you get to the front the blast of air comes from your left and pushes you further away.

There is a need to give them a wide gap for many reasons, but one is that you can let the air steam pull you in a little without fighting it as long as you leave the room for that to happen, then you get pushed back out to your original driving line. Much less tiring but from behind your mates will see you doing a weave but it's very relaxed riding. In some ways anyone who likes sailing will know the feeling of sometimes letting the wind do the work.

Of course if you are standing at the side of the motorway and too close it all happens so fast- you get blown and sucked back out in one so that you fall down in the path of a following vehicle. Even changing a wheel is dangerous as the car can get knocked off the jack. So, the truck driver, being aware of this, needs to be able to pull out to the next lane.

Really gutted for Paul,the injurys have changed his life for ever and that slippery little git has shown very little if any remorse.

We can all have an accident but in the case of Paul and his colleague that was no accident, pure arrogance on the part of a driver who didn't give a thought to his surroundings or responsibilities.

Tongue in cheek most of us know the level of total concentration needed to drive at an average speed of over 80mph and in no way does it leave any room for messing with a mobile or texting. You can only have eyes for the road ahead and conditions around you.

Lets hope the judge does his bit in recognition of the fact that the jury was unanimous for Paul and also his colleague's family.

I have a friend over here who had a bike crash July last year, also now uses a wheelchair but he is getting back on bikes with an extra wheel. He has been spotted in the company of a very impressive Kawasaki GTR with a side car and a wheelchair hanging on a towbar mounted bike rack.

Sending 44 text messages whilst driving in those conditions at that speed is just plain stupidity and inexcusable,isn't it just bloody sods law how he's the one who's uninjured and after he's served his pathetic sentence he'll be able to return to his lavish lifestyle again.

Its time what they are sentenced to is what they serve not half of it.
Hope he ends up in Liverpool jail if its as bad as they say?
